The founders of Golden decided that they would not want anyone shooting arrows at targets from their front door if they had guns pointed at them from across the street. So, they came up with the idea of using a gun as a target instead. They found that using an old fashioned rifle as a target made for an accurate shot because you could adjust your aim by leaning against the barrel. Golden is a city in Larimer County, Colorado, United States. The population was 112 at the 2010 census. Golden has been called "The City of Progress" and "The Gateway to the Rockies." It is one of the mostindustrialized cities in America. Golden's history began with pioneer farmers who settled here in 1871. They started a small town on the edge of what is now Golden and named it after their then-native land country: Grecian Wells. In 1902, they moved the town to its current site east of Interstate 25 and renamed it Golden. The name stuck and today, many people in Golden call themselves "Goldsburgians." In 1911, gold was found at Gold Hill near present-day Golden and soon afterward mining operations commenced here. By 1923 there were over 20 mines operating in this area yielding over $1 million worth of gold each year! This boom time led to heavy development for Golden but also brought about some problems such as race riots that occurred between black miners and white local officials (the first major American race riot). In 1941, when World War II broke out, many jobs went away due to wartime production quotas which had been put into place by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program. However, within two years of Pearl Harbor being bombed by Japan, things changed for Golden when an armistice was signed ending World War II! As a result of this event (and all other related events during that time), unemployment rates plummeted from more than 50% pre-war levels to just 10%. Since then, growth has slowed but not stopped - especially since the addition of I-25 corridor which connects downtown with surrounding areas like Aurora and Centennial Springs/Aurora Heights right off I-25! Downtown businesses have seen continued growth including restaurants like Subway and Wendy's; high end stores like Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue; libraries like Regency Village Library or Boulder Community Library; antique shops; theaters like Regal Theaters or Masonic Temple Theatre; etc.; making Platinum Boulevard one of the most vibrant areas in town!
Golden is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 20,886 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Weld County and part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metropolitan area. Golden was founded on September 6, 1876 by George H. Moffatt with the help of his brother James Moffatt and other investors. The town became a U.S.Postal Service station in 1907 and an agricultural center during the early years of its development. In 1925, Golden hosted the first international fair in North America - the World's Columbian Exposition - which attracted over 150 million visitors from around the world to its grounds.
