Golden is a small town in southern Colorado, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. Golden is located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and bordered by Pueblo to the north and east, Aspen to the south, and Durango to the west. The first European settlers in what is now Golden were Frenchmen who came in 1776 during the French and Indian War. They named their village after a golden flower that they found near Fort Larimer on the Arkansas River. By 1804, when Gold was discovered on July 24th at Sipula Creek, some 4 miles (6 km) northeast of town, many people had come to prospect for gold in this area. In 1825 John Custer attacked a Native American party while skirmishing along Sipula Creek and killed 27 warriors including six chiefs; this led to increased exploration activity around Golden. In 1859 two businessmen from Denver named Peter Krieger and George Haggerty founded The DailyCamera Newspaper Company which published The Denver Post until it was bought by Hearst Corporation in 1896. In 1865 Captain James Wylie built Hotel Wichita for use as a hotel-promotion stop on his exploratory trip through western Colorado but never opened it because he died suddenly before reaching it; he was only 31 years old! After his death several local business men pooled their money to build Wichita State University which opened its doors in 1889. It would eventually become one of America’s leading universities with over 100 colleges and universities operating across its campuses in 2006 according to U.S News & World Report! In 1907 Arapaho Indians living near present day Golden burned down some 10 wagonloads of supplies cached by white miners hoping to induce them into giving up their gold mining claims so that they could be developed without Aboriginal assistance or interference; this event became known as “The Battle of White Mountain” symbolizing continuing conflict between whites and Indigenous peoples throughoutColorado Territory! During World War II many civilians were displaced when airstrikes leveled entire villages such as Ramallah due primarily to concerns about atomic Fission Radiation coming out of plutonium production plants within range! In 1948 General George Patton visited Golden while touring sites within Colorado Territory impacted by nuclear testing exposing locals (mostly women) working inside Trinity Site repository – an event which has been rated as one of history’s most notorious military disasters with human fatalities numbering estimates anywhere from 40% up 98%.
