After his death some residents of Granada began petitioning for Krieger's home village or town be renamed after him so they could continue living close by regardless of their travels within America proper or any other part thereof during those times; finally on February 3rd 1886 they approved changing Granada into Golden due to its beauty as well as its proximity to various major American cities such as New York City and Washington D.C..
