Fruita, Colorado is home to a number ofgun target ranges. The oldest range in the city was built in 1922, and today there are six different shooting areas within the city limits. In 1938, a new range opened up in Fruita that became one of the most popular in town. Pistol targets, for example, are designed to provide a realistic target experience for shooters. Shotgun targets, on the other hand, are designed toshoot animal or human flesh from a distance. Gunners often use these types of targets to practice their aim and shot selection skills as well as improve their timing and trigger control. Pistols and shotguns both use ammunition that is designed to kill targeted objects- typically rounds made specifically for this purpose such as shot cases or casings that contain metal pellets or other projectiles that break upon impact with an object). Ammunition also contains chemicals and propellants which when detonated cause the projectile to travel through the air at high speed and cause damage or death to whatever it hits (e.g., a pistol fires six rounds per second so a round must travel at least 350 meters in order for it to kill). Gun targets have been a part of Fruita, Colorado for over 100 years. The town was founded in 1871 by settlers who came to the area from Colorado and Nebraska. The first guns were used to hunt game in the surrounding countryside. In 1902, the first shooting contest was held in Fruita. At that time, only men could participate. Over the years, gun targets have become an important part of local culture and tradition.
Fruita, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of Western Colorado. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Fruita-Cache Creek valley in El Paso County, about 9 miles (14 km) east of Fort Collins and about 20 miles (32 km) south of Grand Junction. Fruita was named for John Fruits, an early settler. In 1876 Fruita merchants James Aiken and Wm. Hennepin organized a wagon train to explore what would become Colorado Territory. They reached Fruita on November 5 and homesteaded there that winter. In 1881 fruit growers Jens Jensen and Ole Bendix set up shop in what is now Fruita. By 1886 they had developed a commercial orchard that yielded over one million cups of apples per year; this became one of the largest apple orchards in the United States. In 1906 Jens Jensen donated land to the city which later became known as Downtown Fruita. In 1934 downtown Quincy renamed itself "Downtownfruita". In 1956 it merged with downtown Fort Collins to form "DowntownFort Collins". Today Downtown Ft Collins still retains its name though it has changed hands several times including to Civic Plaza in 1996 and then back to Downtown Fruita before finally settling into its current location as part of City Hall Square complex april 7th 2016
