Fruita, Colorado is a small town in the western United States about an hour and a half drive from Denver. It is the seat of Pueblo County and lies on the San Juan River. The population was 2,811 at the 2000 census. The first gun lights were installed in Fruita in 1923 by John S. Haggerty of Fruita Springs, Colorado as part of a campaign to promote hunting in that area. Haggerty had been instrumental in developing the sport of hunting in that area with his brother-in-law, George Waddell. He also helped found the Western Federation of Sportsmen (WFS) in 1922. The first permanent gun light installation was located at what is now known as 9th Street and Park Avenue within the limits of Fruita Springs Resort near where Interstate 25 meets Interstate 29. That gun light was erected by Captains Harry Aiken and Milt Deringer for use by hunters during their annual duck hunt on December 5th, 1923. In 1951, Mayor Clyde Fenton installed a new gun light system at City Hall which has been used ever since to protect citizens from crime during night hours. That project was funded by contributions made by individuals throughout the community who desired to support civic responsibility and safety downtown during those dark days when crime rates were high and visibility limited

In the early 1900s, fruita was home to a small but thriving gunsmith industry. Gunsmiths in Fruita developed various tools and techniques for repairing firearms, including forging and machining. This revolver-making tradition continued into the 1940s when gunsmiths at The Rifle Shop started making semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. In the 1950s, Gunsmith Joe began making rifles in his shop, becoming one of the leading firearm manufacturers in Fruita. His products remain popular today and are used by many residents of the town.
Fruita is a census-designated place in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Fruita is located on the eastern edge of Adams County and is part of the Grand Junction metropolitan area. The town was founded by Jacob and Rachel Wolk in 1876 as a post office and store. It grew rapidly with the discovery of coal seams near the town site. In 1903, Fruita became a city when it was annexed by Grand Junction. The population grew to over 20,000 by 1990. The downtown areas are filled with businesses that have been around for decades such as banks, auto parts stores, convenience stores/grocery stores, restaurants and hotels. One of the newer additions has been Greenmount Park which opened in 2006 adjacent to I-25 south of Fruita proper. It features an open space with tennis courts, a playground and basketball court as well as several residences for people who work in Grand Junction or nearby industries

Fruita is a small town in Garfield County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fruita was founded in 1902 by John Hargrave and others as a station on the Overland Stagecoach Railroad. The community grew gradually around the fruit industry until World War II when it mushroomed with the influx of soldiers and their families fleeing Nazi Germany. In addition to agriculture, fruit production also occurs in local hobby gardens. Fruita is located on State Highway 7 about 17 miles east of Greeley and 18 miles west of Aurora. Fruita first sprang up due to its location on an overgrown piece of track that connected Aurora and Greeley. The name "Fruita" was derived from Spanish words meaning "fruit trees." By 1903, there were twenty people living in Fruita with six businesses including a grocery store, post office, hotel (the first built in Fruita), two lumberyards, two churches (one Congregational) and one garage/smithy. In 1905 a sawmill opened in Fruita which continued operation until 1918 when it was shut down due to WWI rationing policies. A second sawmill operated from 1919-1921 but again closed because of WWI restrictions on wood utilization%. In 1916 local school district superintendent Charles Laughlin donated land northeast of downtown for use as a public School District Park which became known as "Laughlin Park". After years of discussion between school board members and parents about what type of education would be offered within the new park district - such as kindergarten through grade twelve - plans were finally approved to build grades one through four schools at the site in 1922 with funding provided by Mr. Laughlin himself! To date this remains one of only two high school campuses in Colorado dedicated exclusively to educating students age five through eighteen! During these early years there were no streetlights or other forms of light pollution so residents had to rely on lanterns being used for night work during those dark months! The fruit industry slowly declined following prohibition repeal but recommenced activity after repeal occurred; however during this time many farmers decided not to grow food since prices went up 50%+. This led directly to lack thereof for many families who relied heavily upon agricultural incomes for sustenance leading eventually into poverty later on during prohibition's reign! Thereafter few people returned back into fruit farming although some continued operations using less fertile soil or utilizing more modern techniques like hydroponics etc.; however these operations ultimately failed due largely to market conditions outsideColorado during this time period)! From 1946 onward though there has been steady growth with more than doubles (+200%) increase occurring annually!! This growth can be attributed mostly to Interstate 80 running right through town making commuting easy & supporting numerous industries situated alongooth IO 80!!! However much credit should go too Revlon Incorporated & their president Arlen Swartz who developed & spearheaded efforts within municipalities (& state)to promote regional economic development thru advertising throughout Colorado Springs; thereby creating opportunities for companies locate near major city cores while generating jobs throughout surrounding rural areas!".
