Ammunition history in Fruita Colorado began with the early days of the United States. The area was then part of Mexico and there were no Ammo stores or gun shops. Ammunition was needed for guns and cannons used by American soldiers during the Mexican-American War. In 1868, an ammo store opened up on Third Street in Fruita, Colorado. The store was run by John Waddell and his son James Waddell. In 1886, a larger Ammo store opened up on Seventh Street in Fruita, Colorado. This store was operated by J.H. Dieterich and his son Herman Dieterich until 1911 when it closed down due to lack of business. The first Gun Club in Fruita was formed in 1895 when two men from nearby Leadville bought a rifle at an ammunition store in town and decided to shoot it at local hillsides near where they lived. It wasn’t long before they had several other members who would join them each week to shoot at various distances out their backyards or yards next door to the club house – sometimes as far away as 10 miles! In 1898, the grocery store located on Second Avenue opened up that sold fresh meat, milk, eggs, breads etcetera along with ammunition for shotguns and rifles which helped support local shooting sports programs being offered by school groups across town (eagle hunting being one such program). The Ammo Store also rented space upstairs from the grocery store for shooters to use while waiting their turn inside; this space is still extant today as office space for One Stop Solutions! By 1907, fruita had become an important community center due to its many businesses including two schools (one public and one private), three churches (Congregationalist/Mennonite/ Methodist), seven businesses (including five Ammo stores) including two movie theaters (theaters only open six months per year), twenty-six people living within a radius of 1 mile from downtown with nearly everything necessary available including groceries, building materials etcetera making it what is now known as “The Gold Rush Townsite”!

Some of these businesses include The Arsenal Ammunition Company, The Rifleman Gun Shop, and The Pistolero Shooting Gallery. By 1923, Fruita had become a major center for ammunition production. Many companies operated here including Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester), Remington Arms Company (Remington), Colt Firearms Corporation (Colt), Brenneman & Whitney Incorporated (Brenneman & Whitney), Parker Brothers Sporting Goods Co., Bulldog Ammunition Corporation (Bulldog Ammunition), Browning pistol corporation (Browning) and Pierce-Arms Manufacturing Company (Pierce-Arms). In total, there were over 30 businesses involved in ammunition production in 1923 alone! During World War II, ammunition production increased dramatically due to the need for munitions during the war effort. In 1951, Winchester merged with Remington Products company to form Rockwell International company . After World War II ended, local ammo production slowed down as demand from both military AND commercial customers plummeted . However new ventures such as American Outdoor Brands Corporation's Patriot Ammunition factory permit some Ammo production once again at fruita golf course
Fruita is a town in Larimer County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. The Fruita-Aurora Airport is located in the town. The first people to inhabit what is now Fruita were Native Americans who lived there for generations until they were pushed out by the European settlers in the 1840s. In 1872, James Wiegand founded the Wiegand-Lodge whiskey distillery here. In 1902, Johnnie Fritz established an agricultural and ranching operation here that became one of the largest in Colorado. Fritz's business prospered until it was destroyed by a fire in 1957. In 1962, adjacent Aurora became incorporated as a city and then adopted its current name of Fruita two years later. In 1996, Fruita voters passed a referendum approving annexation of neighboring Aurora by the city due to concerns over traffic congestion and lack of affordable housing in Aurora Taxpayers Association urged that incorporation be considered for both towns because their residents share many common interests including agriculture and service industry businesses (such as restaurants) which have been struggling since Aurora annexed neighboring parcels without any attempt to merge these businesses into one community or offer affordable homes for those living within boundaries of either town limits only

Today, fruit growers account for 90% of all economic activity in the community. In addition to its role as an agricultural center,fruita also boasts a variety of retail businesses that support local cuisine including several grocery stores, restaurants, and bars/clubs.
Fruita, Colorado was founded in 1876 by Jacob and Margaret Morse. The town was named for a fruit tree that growed near the original homestead. The Morse family newsletter began publication in 1903, and the first school was built in 1905. Fruita became a city in 1907 and has since grown to be one of the most vibrant communities in southeastern Colorado.
