Fountain, Colorado is home to one of the most famous shooting ranges in the United States. The range, known as the Rocky Mountains Rifle and Pistol Range, is located in the town of Fountain. The range has been in operation since 1892. The range was started by George Armstrong Custer and his brother John Armstrong Custer. It was part of a larger project to improve rifle skills for military purposes. The Custers were able to secure a land grant from the government which allowed them to build a Rifle and Pistol Range on their rancho near present-day Denver. The first target holders were set up on July 4th, 1892. Since its opening, the Rocky Mountains Rifle and Pistol Range has seen many changes. In 1916, it became part of the United States Army Air Forces Base at Long Island City, New York; during World War II it was used as an airfield; and finally it became an NRArange in 1987 after being acquired by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). Today, there are over 1 million shooters who visit the Rocky Mountain Rifle and Pistol Range every year!

In 1928, Fountain became the site of the world's first successful liquid-filled rifle bearing ammunition, when Winchester began producing rounds there. Fountain is a small town in Greeley County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fountain is located on the edge of the Rocky Mountains and overlooks Lake George. The first Europeans to visit Fountain were French traders in 1759. A post office was established in 1875, and by 1903 it had become the village site for both Fountain and Aurora. In 1912 a hydroelectric power plant was built near present-day Erie Street and Four Mile Creek in Aurora; this made Fountain an important center for irrigation water supply for southern Colorado's agricultural areas. The townspeople voted to become incorporated as a village in 1915; after years of growth and development it became an independent city on December 15, 1931. In 1984 downtown Fountain underwent major redevelopment that included the construction of new buildings including three high schools (Fountain High School, Deer Park High School, South Park High School), a library (Fountain Community Library), several businesses (Pizza Hut & Taco Bell — now called La Casa Mexican Grill), two parks (Hyde Park Recreation Center and North Park Reservoir), as well as a new fountain that replaced an earlier one that had been destroyed during World War II bombing raids. By 1990 fountain had reached its current population of 1,812 people with nearly 350 businesses clustered around its central business district which covers 6 blocks along Chestnut Avenue between East First Avenue and East Second Avenue within walking distance of most residents' homes or workplaces. Today much effort has gone into maintaining infrastructure such as public transportation options within reach for all residents while also investing in innovative community programs such as art walks throughout the year/month or free movie nights during summer months when families can gather together around a fire or open up some snacks from local food trucks parked nearby

The name of the town was changed to Fountain after a campaign by citizens to have their community renamed "Fountain". In 1902, it became part of Denver and had its own school district until 1982 when it merged with the Denver Public Schools system. The downtown area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Arapaho County, with several restaurants and shops available for visitors to explore while they are in town. There are also several museums located within or near downtown Fountain that offer interesting exhibits about local history and culture. One of these museums is known as The Museum of American History which features artifacts from America's pioneer days including items from Fort Larimer and Independence Hall among others.
