In 1928, the city annexed the neighboring town of Golden and incorporated as a separate municipality with its own governing body. The annexation brought additional residents and businesses to Fountain and it grew rapidly during the 1930s and 1940s due to its location on Interstate 25 (the main north-south artery in Weld County) and its easy access to resources such as lumber, oil shale, coal and agricultural products. In 1957, when Interstate 25 was extended all the way to Greeley, Fountain became a primary car stop on that highway. In recent years, however, crime rates have surged in Fountain while job opportunities have decreased due to a lack of development around the area. As a result of these factors, many people have left town for greener pastures or other opportunities within Weld County.
Fountain is a small town in the Uncompahgre County of Colorado. It has a population of about 375 people as of the 2000 census. The town is located on the Union Pacific Railroad, east of Pueblo and west of Aspen. Fountain was founded in 1867 by John S. Fountain and his brother-in-law, Major George H. Marston. The first store in Fountain was built by John S. Fountain and his son, Hiram S. Fountain, Jr., on Main Street in 1868. Hiram S. Fountain, Jr.'s wife, Fannie Jourdan (born 1830), also started a store in the town in 1870 followed by their children: Frank W., Clarence A., Addie B., Alice L., Esther M., Creighton W.. In 1876, President Ulysses S Grant made it an official post office called "Fountain". In 1886, Frederick Law Olmsted redesigned the town while living there and named it after himself – Olmstedville – to commemorate his visit to Colorado that year as part of his famous survey project for Denver and its surroundings (see also map). Fountain, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 721 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1887 by J.D. Fountain and his wife Sarah Bestwick as the townsite of Fort Collins, Colorado. The name came from Fountain's discovery of a stream near the community which he named "Fountain" because it looked like a giant fountain in the distance. The first store in Fountain opened its doors on Main Street on July 1, 1887. J.D. Fountain and Sarah Bestwick were among the first people to live in this small community that had only 2 square miles (5 km2) of land total. The couple started out by growing vegetables and selling them door-to-door from their home on First Avenue until they could build a store more suitable for their needs and set up parking for their customers inside their home on Second Avenue after finding an empty lot next to the railroad tracks for sale for $15 per month lease! They also built themselves two homes: one where they currently reside and another where they lived until recently when it burned down due to weather damage combined with other fires within town during recent years; both these residences were later rebuilt using donated materials from local businesses who experienced fire damage as well! In 1912, Jules Bemis opened his own grocery store in what is now known as downtown Fountain which helped spur development around town including new churches being erected along Center Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues while other stores quickly followed suit opening throughout 1913 with most of these businesses taking over abandoned buildings or properties that had been left vacant since prohibition ended less than year before! All told there were over 20 businesses operating in downtown Fountain by 1915 when prohibition repealed!. By 1920 there were just 8 residents living in downtown Fountain compared to today's population of nearly 900 residents according to the 2010 census! However, many aspects of life have remained unchanged such as Route 66 running through town which provides access to all sorts of shopping options while also acting as a cultural identifier for this small town located within easy driving distance of Denver International Airport!
Fountain was founded in 1876 by J.H. Fountain and his wife, Mary. The town grew quickly, and by 1902 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916, the community erected its first high school, which still stands today. By 1925, the town had also built a municipal library and fire department. The population continued to grow rapidly until World War II when it shrunk to around 100 people due to wartime shortages of resources. After the war ended, the community regained some of its former size with the erection of a few more buildings including a post office and police station. In 1956, Fountain began annexing neighbouring communities as part of an effort to become more self-sufficient. By 1970, all but one of the original towns in Fountain were gone with only a few remaining residents left behind.
