Fountain, Colorado is a small town in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,571 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous community in Arapaho County and the second-most populous community in Colorado Springs metropolitan area. Fountain is located on the eastern edge of Arapaho National Forest. The first place that Europeans saw in this region were five small lakes which they named "Fountain," after Sir John Fenton's 15th century map of that area. The name probably comes from Indian words meaning "a running water." In 1854, Engineer George Stephenson built a spur line of the Union Pacific Railroad to go through this area and discovered gold near what is now Fountain; he recommended naming the new locality after him. Gold seekers had been coming to this region for years before this discovery, but it wasn't until 1861 when General James Haggerty discovered anOTHER vein of gold at Golden Hill about 25 miles east of where Fountain now stands. This led to increased mining activity around here so much so that by 1865 there were over 20 mines open for prospecting within one mile radius of Fountain! In 1876, US Cavalry Captain Edwin Stanton personally explored Fountain Canyon and found an extensive silver mine (the first ever reported in Colorado) while on a military operation against Apache Indians living along the Carson River Valley west of Fort Garland Ranger Station. He named his discovery "Fountain" after his Cavalry unit - henceforth known as "The Stanton Mine". This was also home to one of America's first oil refineries - Keystone Oil Company - opened its doors at Keystone Ranch just outside present day Denver on October 7th, 1899 by Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter with over 1 million barrels/day being sold!. Today it remains one of America's largest refinery complexes with production totaling 8 million barrels/day! This boom time period also brought heavy industry into these parts such as breweries and smelters; all these industries together created some 6,000 jobs during that era! These days you can still find several breweries scattered throughout town including Sixpoint Brewery which opened up shop back in 1978 and Steinhart Brewing Co., started up by two friends who met while attending college together back in 1984- both closed down last year but their brews will continue to be brewed right here in Fountain! There are also several restaurants surrounding Park Meadows Cemetery which offers landmark views across downtown Denver towards Mount Rushmore National Monument! However I think my favorite restaurant locally is called Green Gables Inn & Grille – great food no matter how you eat it 🙂 . So what does fountain have going for it today other than all those amazing places to eat? Well technically it has 4square meters or 248 square feet per capita (!!!) making it more densely populated than any other place in Arapaho County combined – something we take advantage off every day when we come out here for shopping ocassionally!!!
