Gunlight history in Fountain, Colorado begins with the development of the first lighted firearm in 1876. That same year, a group of men under the leadership of John C. Fremont traveled to Fountain and erected a wood frame building known as the Rifleman’s Lodge. The purpose of this structure was to teach gunsmithing skills to potential rifle shooters from throughout central Colorado. In 1879, Gunfighter’s Union No. 1 was founded in Fountain and it became one of the most influential organizations in Colorado during that time period. This organization promoted responsible gun ownership and advocated for reform at the state level. In 1881,gunlights were introduced into Fountain when Jens Christer began using them on his pistols. He liked their ability to illuminate dark areas while still remaining accurate. Fountain residents continued to use gunlights as part of everyday life until 1912 when they were finally outlawed by the government due to their potential misuse. However, these devices continued to be used clandestinely until 1935 when they were finally lifted from prohibition status and made available for public purchase once again. Since then, gunlights have been an important part of fountain community culture and are still used today for illumination purposes within the city limits!

The current mayor is Pete Buttigieg and the town recorder is Bob Hausermann (D). Fountain has two parks: one near downtown and one on State Route 34 across from the high school. There are also several nature trails that lead to different parts of Fountain Creek and San Miguel River. The town's economy relies heavily on agriculture (especially potatoes), tourism, mining activity (including oil shale mining), and local manufacturing including some light manufacturing such as clothing companies that relocated to Fountain after World War II ended. In recent years there have been efforts to revive downtown businesses as well as add more retail space inside or outside ofCUBA Connections mall which opened in 2007 just east of downtown fountain

Fountain is a small, rural town in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Fountain is located on the eastern edge of the Central Mesa Mountains and it is bordered by the towns of Durango to the south and Rifle to the east. The Town of Fountain was established in 1887 when parts of Durango were annexed into Mesa County. The first settler in Fountain was George Ainsworth who arrived in 1868 from Vermont. He built a cabin on what is now State Highway 16 near present-day Canon City. A few years later, he married Anna Maria Goodrich and they began farming around their cabin until they bought land for a village called Fillmore in 1872. In 1876–77, they built a two-story frame school house which still stands today as Fountain's only building apart from some garage buildings that were added over time. It served as both a public school and community center until it burned down in 1951. In 1880s there were about 15 residents living in Fillmore with three or four farms surrounding it. By 1910 there were just 6 residents living there with one farm remaining and five small businesses nearby including two blacksmiths, a printing press, three stores, two livery stables (later known as Thoroughbred Stables), an ice cream parlor and several residences including one that doubled as a sheriff's office during prohibition years In 1912 Fillmore had one hotel (the "Oasis") but no other commercial buildings aside from granaries and post office which closed in 1930 after World War II .
