Gun hammers were first patented in 1892 by George W. Hammer. The early guns with hammer-action fired a ballistically unique cartridge called the Hammerman that was of significantly different design than any other cartridge then in use. This particular hammer action caused the hammer to strike the primer at an angle which led to increased accuracy and fire rate. A further refinement of this gunhammer action, termed the Hammerlock, allowed for a greater range of motion while firing because it eliminated or reduced backlash against the striker after impact. Hammerguns continued to be developed until about 1907 when they were replaced by firearms with manual-firing mechanisms such as pistols and shotguns
There are many types of hammers, but the most common type is the gun hammer. Gun hammers are used to dismember or cut objects by striking them with the side of the hammer instead of with the top. This difference in force causes a distinction betweengun and knife hammers. A knife hammer will do just about anything a gunhammer can do, including smashing objects into small pieces. However, a knife hammer is not as effective at breaking things down into smaller pieces because it has a weaker impact than a gunhammer. A gun hammer is also used for other purposes such as pounding nails or screws into wood or metal. Fountain, Colorado is an unincorporated community located in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,749 at the 2010 census. It lies at the junction of U.S. Highway 24 and State Highway 66. Fountain is east of Trinidad and west of Pueblo. The name "Fountain" comes from the Rocky Mountains and refers to a natural water source nearby that used to be called the "Fountain of Life." A well-known brewery in Fountain named Keystone Brewing Company was founded in 1907 by two brothers named Keystone and their father, John Keystone Sr. The first building on what is now Main Street was built about 1885 as a blacksmith shop for local farmers. In 1928, Keystone BrewingCo moved its production headquarters from Denver to Fountain and changed its name to Keystone Brewery Inc., which still exists today as an outdoor advertising company with locations throughout Colorado Springs and Fort Collins . In 1912, Judge George Biddle erected a small log cabin next door to his farm on present day Main Street in order to serve as a transient stop on stagecoaches traveling between Pueblo (now downtown) and Durango (now north of Durango). This became known as the "Judge's Cabin" until it burned down in 1951 while he was away on vacation. This event served as motivation for one of Colorado's most famous poets - Walt Whitman - to write a poem entitled "Fountain" about West Texassettlers travelling through this area during their horseback ride from Telluride down into New Mexico:Alone among men I am contentedI have no care for cities or fearsOf robbers or dangers beyond Thy reach;Nor do I look back with reproachOn those who left me behindWhen alone upon these wild1 pathwaysI take my easeAnd feel that I am doing rightBy all who travel nearby." It wasn't until 1910 when George Hargrave started operating a post office at what is now Third Street in Fountain after spending several years searching for one close by. He named his post office Hargrave after himself because he felt it would provide more milk traffic than anything else nearby at the time (). In 1916, Hargrave added an elevator so mail could be delivered directly to customers' homes rather than having it trucked upriver like earlier Post Offices (). By 1923, Hargrave had also built a small depot on First Avenue south of town which served both locals and out-of-towners alike before finally being replaced by the current depot on Main Street in 1925 (). In 1933 (), fountain opened its own telephone line which allowed residents greater convenience when making calls outside of town (). In 1945 (), Fountain established itself as an independent city when it adopted articles of incorporation recognising other municipalities withinAdams County including Aspen , Lafayette , Montrose , Parker , Thornton and Vail . With this new status came increased tax revenue which helped fund municipal services such as fire protection, libraries etc.. Over time however civic pride faded somewhat due to limited funding sources although there has been occasional effort made over the years by city officials to revive interest The current main street leading into town center dates back onlyto 1955 when Main Avenue were widened following development along that route adjacent to Town Lakehurst School District No 7A construction project
