Fountain, Colorado is a town in the San Juan County seat of Pueblo. It was founded in 1872 by James J. Fountain and named for the nearby Fountain Creek. The population was 853 at the 2010 census. In recent years, however, Fountain has experienced a resurgence as a small-town community that retains its sense of community spirit despite the advances of metropolitan areas nearby. The first settlers in what is now Fountain were two men from Illinois who came to claims land on the northeast side of what is now Pueblo in 1872. They named their new settlement after the nearby Fountain Creek which ran through their farmlands. The creek became an important melting pot for Irish and Italian immigrants who had come to Pueblo during the railroad boom of 1870-1871. Many people also settled here during Utah’s gold rush when prospectors discovered rich veins of silver and gold near today’s Keystone Reservoir. In 1875 James J. Fountain purchased 3 acres (1 km2) adjacent to present day Fountain from David Sanger for $300 cash only – he believed then that small towns should have access to public utilities like water and telephone service because they would be more likely to stay healthy and vibrant over time if they had such amenities available at early stages in their development! With this purchase, James J. fountain laid out his original Town Square which still stands today as one ofPueblo’s most iconic landmarks! He later donated another acre (1 km2) surrounding his original square to become Park Row which remains home to many local businesses today including Pueblo Arts District & Old Forge Brewery! Fountain experienced its heyday during Prohibition when many residents made themselves millionaires smuggling alcohol across state lines! However, by 1951 prohibition had been repealed and things began to change for the better for all involved; businesses opened up due in part to advances in transportation technology like air travel which allowed easier shipping container transported goods long distances without having them restocked on multiple stops! This fostered growth within both the hotel/motel industry as well as agriculture; Today there are several historic hotels/motels located throughout downtown including Main Street Inn & Suites restaurant where pioneer John Davenport served dinner every nightf legendary Route 66 traveler Dean Martin entertained guests during his 1957 concert at Main Street Inn (& Later that year he hosted Elvis Presley live)!
