Fountain, Colorado is a small town located in the eastern Plains of Colorado. The population was 1,951 at the 2000 census. In NRA History Month, we highlight some of Fountain's most notable gun chokes. The first known choke device to be used with firearms was an early 18th century design called a "snuffer." A snuffer consisted of two pieces of wood that were joined together at one end and fit over the muzzle of the gun. When pulled back, it prevented the Firearm from firing. Firearms that featured this type of choke often had long barrels and were used by farmers and other men who needed to fire off several rounds quickly without having to reload. In 1892, Fenton County Congressman James Wickersham developed a new type of choke known as an "8-way" or "universal cocking block." This choke allowed guns to be fired multiple times without having to remove them from their stocks. This innovation helped increase rifle shooting opportunities for both men and women across America. Fountain is a small town in western Colorado, United States. The population was 1,493 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Denver–Aurora. Fountain is bordered by the towns of Westminster to the east and north, Thornton to the west, and Aspen to the south. The town sits on a small Reservoir that provides water for local farms and homes. The first people to live in Fountain were Native Americans who hunted and gathered resources near present-day Fountain Creek. They built their first houses about 1810 after discovering a place with running water. By 1830, some settlers had moved into what is now Fountain from surrounding settlements including Aspen and Westminster. A school was built in 1834 which served as a base for teaching youngsters in both communities about farming techniques and self-defense skills against Indians who lived nearby. In 1841, three men started a grist mill on the banks of Fountain Creek which became one of the earliest flour mills in Colorado. The mill closed around 1930 but its remains remain today as part of what is now called Pioneer Park northeast of town center. In 1865, three ranchers named John Hirschhorn, Amos Kendall, and Wm Fenton decided to start irrigating their land around present day Fountain Creek using an early form of irrigation technology called "drip irrigation." This system involved pouring water over plants below ground until it reached a storage tank where it could be used again later that day or night; this allowed farmers to grow crops year-round instead of just during certain times of year. By 1870 several other farmers had joined Hirschhorn & Kendall's venture and by 1880 they had developed an entire valley full of production dairy farms watered by riverine systems with drip irrigation systems throughout it; this allowed them to sell milk direct to residents without going through middlemen such as wholesalers or retailers). Fountain saw its heyday during World War I when many soldiers came home from fighting abroad and began streaming into town looking for jobs; this also led to increased tourism which helped keep business afloat during tough economic times earlier in century (although inflation took its toll starting in 1920). However, by World War II things had rapidly changed because Of all American states only Colorado enjoyed war exemption so not many American citizens volunteered for military service (the rest turned out healthy Roweans) . So much so that most businesses closed down immediately upon Pearl Harbor attack while others continued trading but did not have anythingto do with wartimeProduction due To shortage Of manpower And materials……….The post-World War II years were difficult for fountain as industry gradually shifted away from agriculture towards new typesOf production such as energy based industries….. factories closed down one after another until finally there was no manufacturing within sight except warehouses filled With Old computers……………….. Located off US Highway 6 between missesoula Junction And la Mesa hemlock these buildings once housed many local tech companies before they too went bankrupt…………………Today you can still find remnants Of These companies inside Hemlock National Forest’s ponderosa pine forest known locally as “The Place Where All Roads Lead To Nowhere”
Fountain was founded in 1868 by James W. Fountain and his wife, Emma. The first post office at Fountain opened in 1870. In 1875, the town name was changed to Telluride to honor General John J. Pershing. The name Telluride was reverted to Fountain in 1902 when Telluride became an incorporated municipality. The city of Telluride was founded on November 3, 1916 as a result of a merger of the two villages of Fountain and Northglen.
