Among these early settlers were Hiram Page who arrived from Vermont in 1872,[14], Lucius Weed who came from New York City in 1874,[15], John Sprague who arrived from Massachusetts in 1876,[16], George Wichmann who arrived from Germany in 1880,[17], James A Barranca who settled near Fort Collins on October 16th, 1888[18]; Levi Strauss also settled here during this time period; William Cummins also settled here circa 1890s[19]. The Village Company built five homes around 1912-1920 on land donated by John Sprague at East Green Road and North Broadway which Circle K grocery store owner Oskar Schueller leased for $500/year(the lease ran out before expiration)[20],[21],[22],[23]). By 1916 there were 24 families living there:[24]- most derived their income locally through agricultural pursuits or trading services rendered such as flourmill work or ranching activities with related businesses functioning as transportation hubs serving surrounding communities including Vail (then called Keystone), Loveland (then called Telluride), Aspen Creek Rancho Park & Palace Hotel etc:[25]- making local commerce one way or another deeply ingrained into everyday life for all involved throughout much of this era especially given that horses were their primary means obtaining food supplies Notable exceptions include: Store employee Fred Ziegler’s refusalTactical movements during WWI led some Tooele farmers organizing themselves into an effort effective May 1917 known as “Citizens Committee Against Callousness Toward Soldiers” whose goal was not simply peaceful protest but also economic boycott against Germanowned stores across Western Valley
