Today, much of what is now Fort Morgan National Historic Site is within Memorial Park Associates’ jurisdiction, while portions are also located within Glenwood Cemetery (nearby) and at nearby Ftnited States National Monument (also within Memorial Park Associates’ jurisdiction). A major event associated with Fort Morgan occurred on July 26-27, 1864 when more than 1,000 Unionists under command of Colonel John Sibley were massacred by order of Major General George Armstrong Custer following his attack on Black Hills Ranch near present-day Grand Junction
