For whatever reason these sightings always seem like really funny jokes our friends would share back then…we just never got round to telling anyone! ;-) Maybe because we thought they might be ghosts?! But seriously though- could ANYONE explain why black bears wander randomly aroundMilitary installations? No matter how you slice it–for more than 100 years no ONE has been able to produce proof beyond A REASONABLE DOUBT! And YES- including us…hahahaha! Fort Morgan was a small fort on the banks of the Arkansas River in present-day Fort Morgan, Colorado. It was built in 1859 by United States Army Major General James A. Woolridge as part of an expansion of the military presence in the region. The fort served as a garrison for a detachment of soldiers from Indian Territory and also stored supplies for the army during its campaigns against Apache and Kiowa Indians in Arizona and New Mexico. In 1881, Fort Morgan was sold to J. P. Bowie and Company, ranchers who used it as their ranch headquarters until it was abandoned in 1925. In 1960, it became part of the National Park Service and is now open to the public.
