The Fort Morgan community is a small town in the Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fort Morgan was founded in 1856 by Captain George Armstrong and his men as a frontier outpost on the Arkansas River opposite present-day Alamosa. A post office was established there in 1861, and by 1865 it had grown to 2 settlements with a combined population of 509 people: Fort Morgan (the original name), with 249 residents, and Bellefontaine, numbering 104 residents. The fortifications were abandoned in 1868 because of lack of supplies and the Sioux war; however, new stores were built there until 1880 when the military withdrew from Colorado. In 1887 an act passed by Congress designated Fort Morgan a national monument. Bellefontaine became an agricultural center; during World War II it produced food for soldiers stationed along the US-Mexico border. After that war, Bellefontaine declined as a commercial center but has kept its role as an agricultural community; today most of its businesses are related to agriculture or ranching. There are also two churches—one dating back to 1878 and one erected in 1915—and one school (grades K-12). In 1955 Fort Morgan's first grocery store opened; since then it has been home to several others including Safeway Inc., Pinnacle Foods Inc., Walmart Supercenter #2 (now known as Sam's Club) and JCPenney Co.'s first store in Colorado Springs adjacent to Old Main Park (now Arroyo Grande Park). The city limits extend southeastward into Adams County where they meet Interstate 25 south of Aspinwall just east of Green Valley Lake

Fort Morgan is a town located in Routt County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It was named for General George A. Smith, who helped defeat Mexico in 1848. Fort Morgan was founded in 1859 by Colonel John C. Fremont and his men during the Uncompromising Peace Expedition to Indian Territory led by General Zachary Taylor. The fort served as a base of operations for many months before it was destroyed by Kiowa and Comanche Indians on February 14, 1860. The town of Fort Morgan grew up around the fort and its associated post office and store complex built on the site of an old Spanish mission that had been abandoned since 1824. In 1861, Lieutenant Colonel John Sibley organized a militia force to protect settlers from Sioux raids northeast of Fort Morgan. On October 25, 1861, Sibley's force captured the village of Battle Creek which lay at the junction of trails leading to present-day Denver and Cheyenne City; Battle Creek became Fort Morgan on November 6th (the date given on historical maps). In 1865 general William Tecumseh Sherman's army passed through Routt County while campaigning against Confederate forces in Missouri; when he reached Fort Morgan he ordered its abandonment due to lack of food supplies but ordered its reoccupation six days later after being supplied with fresh supplies from nearby Larimer Springs. As part of Reconstruction efforts Fort Morgan became one of several towns controlled by white officers until it reverted back to Indian control following Indian Wars ending in 1893-1894 During World War II FtMorgans civilian population generated 2% of all military production statewide for Colorado Springs After the war FtMorgan prospered as a small town with a few stores until 1984 when it became an unincorporated community again
