Fort Morgan was founded in 1867 as a military post on the Colorado River. It became an important center for the development of technology and the manufacture of optical equipment. In 1902, Fort Morgan was renamed Fort Collins after General Lorenzo Jameson, who served as military governor of Colorado during the late 1800s. Today, Fort Morgan is open to visitors for picnics and tours every day from dawn to dusk.
