There is no doubt that firearms have been a part of American culture for centuries. When Colorado became a state in 1912, it was decided that there should be a special rifle range in Fort Collins. This was done so that citizens could learn how to shoot rifles properly. The first rifle range opened its doors to the public on November 15, 1912. At this time, shotguns were not allowed on the range. The first handgun range opened its doors on October 6, 1915. Shotguns were then allowed on the range at this time. The second rifle range opened its doors on February 2, 1916 with an automatic fire weapon called an M1911A1 being available for purchase at this time. On July 1st, 1922, both Rifle ranges closed due to lack of funding which led to their reopening under new ownership two years later by Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Waddell with money from the National Defense Program fund set aside specifically for these purposes

Fort Collins, Colorado is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 34,853 at the 2010 census. Fort Collins is the county seat of Weld County. The city is located on the Western edge of the University of Colorado campus and is adjacent to Interstate 25. The first European settlers in what is now Weld County were prospectors who discovered gold near Pueblo in 1849. By 1860, Fort Collins had become an important military and commercial center due to its location on US Routes 50 and 26 and its access to water from the Animas River. In 1865, General John A. Logan founded Fort Logan here as part of his effort to protect Denver from marauding Indians that were terrorizing neighboring counties. The fort was completed in 1868 and served as a military base until it was closed in 1907 because of budget cuts by then-Governor Craig Venter. During World War I, Fort Collins played an important role in providing food for troops stationed along the Western Front; during World War II it became a strategic airbase used by the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force Tactical Air Command (later Eighth Air Force). The city's population grew rapidly after World War II when heavy industry replaced agriculture as the primary sector of local economy; however, rapid growth has also led to controversy over gentrification and displacement of low-income residents into high-priced housing developments nearby on lively Commerce Street near UC Boulder Campus and eastward through downtown onto Riverside Boulevard where many businesses have moved out since 2000 or so when Interstate 25 shifted away from Fort Collins downriver towards Golden Gate Bridgehead development area with new freeway ramps connecting I-25 with I-70/I-76 northbound/southbound exit ramp just south of downtown which provides easy access for cars entering both those cities without having to cross I-25 which created difficult traffic conditions for people trying to get around those streets only going east or west across town centre towards their destinations north or south on that main artery
