In 1870s cattle ranching began developing here after being introduced by American travelers driving overland during their Mormon missionary trips across Northern California into Arizona Territory where mining had begun nearby on Silverthorne Hill just east of Tucson; this drove up demand for beef which Local farmers could no longer meet due to lower prices achieved when transportation improved with mail coaches running all summer long instead of having to wade through watercourses during winter months A local school district was organized District #1 northwest (later School District #2) starting with Larimer Avenue Wagon Wheel School built 1888 followed by Arapaho Heights School 1889 then Roosevelt High School built 1907 before eventually becoming Ft.
