In 1924 local entrepreneur Harry Wirth founded Wirth's Electric Supply Company which operated out of what is now First Union Bank on State Highway 7 until 1959 when it merged into First National Bank and closed down again in 1984 after several years without interruption because OFCCO discouraged banks from merging at that time due to concerns about consolidation among rival companies’ financial ability to compete successfully with one another later on. Evans, Colorado is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. Evans has been an unincorporated community since 1892. It is named after Captain John Evans who founded the first post office in Weld County on the banks of the Animas River. The community began as a farming and ranching town with a population of about 100 people in 1892. By 1904, there were only six residents living in Evans and it had fallen to a population of 30 people by 1915. However, by 1920, Evans had regained its former prosperity thanks to heavy agricultural production and the opening of the Evanston Railroad which connected Evans with other rural communities in eastern Weld County. The railroad also stimulated commercial development within the small town with businesses such as a grocery store and bank opened up along its main street. In 1930, when prohibition was repealed in America, Evans experienced some significant change due to new alcohol laws that applied to all U.S. states rather than just specific counties within Weld County. As a result of this change, most alcohol sales within Evans stopped while many businesses closed their doors because they could not compete against state-mandated liquor prices. This period of economic hardship left many residents struggling to pay for groceries and basic needs such as housing and health care while also facing obstacles such as low wages and no job opportunities outside of their local industries
