With production up at Watsonville (and another key factor behind its growth), by 1923 Evans boasted a population of 5,000 people living in 9 blocks with one school, five churches, three hotels/motels (the Hotel Loveland), four newspapers (the Evans Gazette-Times; The Daily Herald; TheLoveland Republican; and TheEvans Enterprise), twelve stores (five grocery stores; six dressmakers/ notions stores; six hardware stores; two plumbers/apartment builders) and sixteen telephone service providers
