Evans quickly became known for its agriculture including cattle ranching, hay production, vegetablesiculture, and fruit trees; however it also began developing into a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty and range of activities available such as skiing, hiking, fishing, golfing, bird watching, camping/ramping/hiking opportunities etc. The townsite was named after General James Halleck Evans who fought in both Mexican–American War and American Civil War while living in nearby Aspen Junction. In 1907 oil drilling began on what would become Fracastle Oil Field; however due to high costs associated with exploration then development Fracastle Field was abandoned in 1912 amidst much criticism from local citizens who felt their taxes were not being properly supported by their government. Today little remains of those days except for some remaining structures at Caird's Mill dating back to 1871-1916 as well as an old compressor station built around 1960 that provides power for local businesses including several school buses used during winter months when Electricity is not available out there!
