Evans is a small town in Larimer County, Colorado, United States. The population was 784 at the 2010 census. Evans is named after J.B. Evans, an early settler and namesake of the community. The Evans Academy opened its doors in 1865 as the first public school in Evans. It was a one-room schoolhouse with no playground or other amenities typical of schools of its time. The academy closed in 1978, but reopened as the Evans Middle School in 1984 and later served as part of Evarts High School until it merged into nearby Ansell High School in 2006. In 1876, J.B. Evans established a flour mill in what is now Evans Village and began to export flour from his mill to local stores and restaurants throughout Central Colorado and Wyoming Territory. In 1892, he founded the First National Bank of Evans Village which became one of the largest banks east of Denver before its merger with Peet's Banking Company in 1931. In 1915, Ethel Mertz Addison married Hiram Wirthlin, who had been born in Lyons on July 10th, 1873 (the day after Columbine Peak erupted). Hiram Wirthlin had come to America from Germany when he was only 15 years old and worked his way up through various jobs including owning land near Aspen where he built a holdings company that included some of Aspen's earliest businesses such as post office and hotel precursor Keystone Telephone Company In 1922, Hiram Wirthlin died suddenly at age 75 while vacationing at their home on Mount Charleston Peninsula southeast of Denver; Ethel continued to live there until her death two years later at age 80 due to complications from surgery she had undergone for back pain caused by her husband’s death four months earlier At Hiram Wirthlin’s death certificate it was stated that “he died September 5th following a long illness” However following autopsy results which revealed that he may have died from natural causes rather than an attack by another animal Springs resident Tom Snyder wrote "I never got around to reading through all those papers I sent him" After Hiram Wirthlin's death Springs residents donated his body back to Colorado so that he could be buried there next to his wife Ethel He started Lawn Seed Farms just outside of townerveing seed plots for farmers not farmed today until 1953 when they moved out west into Longmont County) On July 6th 1916 Mrs.(Mertz?) Addison gave birthto their only childJill Hutton Addison born at St Joseph Catholic Hospital PuebloCO When Jill Hutton turned 16 her parents took her away with them to live with relatives Back East Married finally October 12th 1945 To James Fenton leaving behind three children: Lynn Fenton (married 1951 & has three children), Johnathon Fenton (married 1975 & has two children)and daughter Katharine Ellen(married 1990) There were twelve grandchildren total Jill Hutton Addison remained widowed until her own death on January 17th 2002 .

Growth continued with the opening of a general store and post office in 1892, and an oil refinery in 1903. The population peaked at around 1,500 in 1920 but decreased to around 500 by 1940.
