Evans, Colorado is a small town located in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. It was founded on July 22, 1889 by James Evans and his family. The town was named for General John A. Evans who fought in the Mexican-American War and afterwards served as a colonel in the United States Army. The first store in Evans opened its doors on December 12, 1889. The population of Evans peaked at 148 residents during the early 1900s but has since decreased significantly. Today, there are only a few remaining families residing in the town. The history of Evans begins with its namesake, James Evans. Born in 1828 near what is now Columbus, Ohio, he moved to central Colorado and erected a log cabin on an agricultural farm that he purchased from David Fisher. In 1868, Evans married Rachelle Lummis and they started a family of four children: Anna (1869-1948), George Washington (1872-1945), Arlene (1875-1963) and James Everett ( 1880-1968). After purchasing additional land around the cabin, James started farming operations that yielded income until World War I when he enlisted in the American Expeditionary Force and served in Europe as captain of Company K1st Infantry Regiment 1st Brigade Combat Team 3rd Division earning battle honors for his actions at Meuse-Argonne Forest where he was shot through the shoulder by an enemy sniper while leading his unit into position to attack an entrenched position). From 1918 to 1919, Evans worked as general manager of Golden Rule Creamery which produced butter products for local grocery stores before returning home to open his own creamery twelve years later which became one of largest processors of pasteurized milk products in North America James’ wifeRachelle died suddenly after giving birth to their fourth child Anna fourteen months later on October 11th 1894 while they were living near Trinidad Pass outside Pueblo with their two youngest children George Washington Jr.(1895-) and Arlene(1900-) serving temporarily as nannies while their father completed his service overseas After Rachelle’s death James remarried three times; firstly to Edith Potter following her divorce from her first husband John Potter; secondly to Jennie Dunlap after she divorced her second husband Charles Dibble; finally to Oella Hargrave after she divorced her third husband Harry Gorman . All these marriages produced six children but only one daughter survived infancy: Evangeline leukemia survivor Arlene who met young doctor Neil Sheehan whilst working at St Joseph’s Hospital – this meeting led Evangeline Rosemary Sheehan born May 13th 1922 also known professionally as Alice Cooper together they had two daughters Evangeline Rosemary Sheehan born November 6th 1944 also known professionally as Alice Cooper & Rosi Lynn Sheehan born January 2nd 1946 also known professionally as Evelyn ) remains resident today living with her grandparents who raised her within close proximity since childhood Evans experiences significant growth during Gold Rush era due largely due to mass migration from surrounding counties including Asotin County resulting various new businesses such as J A Fritsche Coffee House & Saloon which quickly occupied vacated housing throughout most days during miners strike shutting down communications between towns developing along Arkansas River During pauses/restrictions caused by mines operators other than NLR&A many huts have been constructed such as Blacksmith Shop etc among others over time
