The history of firearms in Erie, Colorado goes back to the early 1800s. Firearms were used for hunting and protection during those early days. A man by the name of James Brown started a gunsmith shop in 1825 in what is now known as the Olde Towne area of Erie. In 1828, Brown started selling firearms from his shop at State and Cherry streets. The store was later renamed the Brown & Ross Gun Store after two entrepreneurs who purchased it from Brown in 1892. In 1861, when America was plunged into war with 1861-1865, many people in Erie decided to arm themselves for self-defense. Some men donated their excess firearms to local militias, while others bought new guns and assembled them into teams or "shotguns" to take on Confederate forces. The first documented shooting incident involving a firearm took place on September 24, 1861 when two citizens named Sargent and Hutton fired one shot each at an animal they believed had been stealing chickens from their farmstead near Highland Park Cemetery. Afterwords they collected all of the chickens and brought them home to present to their household members as evidence that they’d successfully fought off raiders! On October 3rd, 1861, another citizen by the name of Smith made an observation about Confederate troops coming down Donelson Road from Castle Rock towards town via Canisteo Street: "I observed three pieces of artillery being driven through a small stream leading towards our town." This led directly to secessionist violence that began three days later when Unionists opened fire on a crowd of peaceful pro-Union demonstrators marching across Canisteo Street which resulted in 14 dead and more than 100 injured; this event is considered one of the bloodiest moments in American history (although not among Buffalo’s most notorious massacres). When hostilities ceased on April 9th 1865 following General Ulysses S Grant's victory at Appomattox Court House several residents chose instead to disband their militias rather than fight again against so many unknown opponents (the decision not only saved lives but also allowed Erie residents some dignity). Many individuals residualized these arms including James Brown who reopened his gunsmith shop located at State and Cherry Streets shortly thereafter; this activity helped contribute greatly to Erie's current arsenal consisting mostly brand new rifles/ammunition storage facilities dating back over 50 years!

Erie, Colorado is a small city in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. Erie is the county seat and largest city of Adams County. The town of Erie was platted in 1868 by commissioners from Larimer and Weld Counties. Erie became a U.S. Post Office on November 1, 1872. The first postmaster, David Humphreys, served until his death in 1886. The present postmaster is James Jahnke. In 1889, the Erie Canal was completed through the town and served as a transportation link between Denver and Buffalo City until it was abandoned in 1951. The downtown area includes two blocks of Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets NW., five blocks of First Avenue NE., six blocks of Second Avenue SE., three blocks of Third Street SW., one block of Fourth Street NW., two dozen businesses on four levels including sixteen restaurants/cafes/bars/nightclubs (including some with Michelin stars), twelve movie theaters, and four retail stores including Dillards Sporting Goods & Hardware store, Goudreau's Grain Millinery store (now an antique mall), and Ponds Pharmacy which opened in 1907 as Lakewood Pharmacy before becoming Erie Drugstore Co-operative which merged with Aetna HealthCare to form UnitedHealthcare in 2018 Erie has been home to several industries over its history: manufacturing; agriculture; printing; banking; health care services; coal mining operations that closed down during the 1960s but have been preserved as part of town history via tours or heritage properties (); engineering (); construction (); tourism (). Erie, Colorado is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. Erie was founded in 1868 by James Alvord and his wife Mary Ann. The population was 3,890 at the 2010 census. Erie is the easternmost town in Douglas County and the second-smallest town east of Denver. The first settler in Erie was James Alvord who arrived from New York on July 20, 1868. He and his wifeMary Ann started a small farm just west of what would later be called Route 191. The Alvords were pioneers and were instrumental in building the town of Erie into a thriving community that today enjoys growth through its businesses, cultural attractions, and infrastructure. Erie’s success as a village led to its incorporation as a municipality on February 26, 1912 pursuant to an act of the General Assembly of Colorado (Chapter 724). That same year saw the opening of Erie’s first post office which served the community until 1964 when it became part of metro Denver. A rapid growth ensued during Edsel Ford’s ownership of The Ford Motor Company (FORD) and other industrialists who patronized downtown businesses such as The Western blvd restaurant which still stands today despite years of deterioration thanks to repeated vandalism by vandals over time. In 1974 Buffalo Bill Cody opened his ranch adjacent to what is now downtown Erie; this catalyzed renewed interest in downtown with nights spent there becoming increasingly popular among locals and visitors alike for historical reasons only available during special events or during summer months when all activity outside Lowertown centered around Bills Ranch limits access for most residents/visitors crossing Main Street between 12th Avenue North & 11th Avenue North
The Erie Railroad was a commuter railroad that served the city of Erie, Colorado. It opened in 1892 and became an important link between the farming communities of central Colorado and the city. The railroad closed in 1966.
