Erie is the home of the Erie Plus-size clothing store chain. The first post office in Erie was established on December 2, 1868, and served the town of North Adams until it was closed on July 31, 1969. The first settler in what is now Erie was John Fetterman who built a cabin in 1867. The community of North Adams grew up around this early settlement and eventually became an incorporated village when North Adams incorporated as a Village March 12th 1870. Erie started as a small farming community with few residents until it developed into a manufacturing center for clothier JF Drake & Sons before becoming an industrial center for furniture manufacturers Sears Roebuck & Co., American Can Manufacturing Company (now Anheuser Busch), and finally Ford Motor Company’s Elkhart Assembly Plant which opened in 1919. After World War II the production moved to other plants but continued to be headquartered at the Ford plant until it closed in 1997 due to economic conditions outside of Michigan. The current incarnation of the city began growing after World War II when Erie attracted industry that had left Michigan due to wartime competition from years of excess production by General Motors and its sister company Chevrolet Dorsey & Whitney (later Wabash Electric). Jobs were created at such companies as Alcoa Aluminum “the leading producerof aluminum products west of Chicago” which built smelters across central Pennsylvania; Nucor Steel; Keystone K45 Refinery; PBF Energy Service Ltd.; Mohawk Paper Products Inc.; American Welder Corporation; Champion Cannery Company (now Hormel Foods) among others which produced foodstuff needed for military camps during World War II including canned goods like fruit pears from Elmira-Corning Glass Workshops while also taking on jobs creating shipsyards along Lake Ontario like Huron Shipbuilding Corp., Buffalo Boatbuilding Corporation’s Niagara Shipyard and Canadian Numbered Ships Yards Ltd./Centennial Yachtbuilders Ltd./Queen Elizabeth Yachtbuilders Limited.– their construction crew bringing more than 1 million people into employment over five decades—-and building some fifteen thousand homes—-in one place! But even with all this activity there never seemed to be enough room so development accelerated after 1950 when officials determined that downtown would reach six hundred feet by 2000 blocks while eastside growth would top out at two thousand feet perpendicular to I-70/Upper Main Street providing plenty of open space for retail business expansion without obstruction or conflict between development teams! With all these resources available new buildings were being erected faster than ever before culminating with what can only be called “The Center New Town Project” completed in 1960 with plans calling for 375 acres within walking distance of downtown consisting primarily of office buildings housing banks, insurance companies etc., Recreation Centers including Aquinas Park Zoo and Western State College football stadium as well as new Walmart Supercenter just southwest cornering Main Street near I-70/Upper Main Street served by shuttle bus service from Elkhart AFB! This project included Erie High School moving from its original location located across Upper Main Street from City Hall down South Broadway towards Depot Square then northward along Depot Square past City Hall back onto Lower Main Street concluding adjacent to First National Bank where students could drop off books for study during lunchtime! In addition major reconstruction efforts occurred throughout downtown following a devastating fire that destroyed most businesses visible on Market Square resulting in physical changes including replacement or renovation nearly every business block between Second Avenue eastward through Third Avenue inclusive uptown utilizing funds raised both through fundraising events hosted by civic organizations such as Rotary Clubs each weeknight preceding Ash Wednesday services ensuing throughout Lent followed by Christmas season) – causing much speculation about why no major retailers reopened following initial cleanup weeks later once again evidence suggested arson!! From its roots serving mostly farmers families local governments have grown increasingly complex supporting multiple services comprising three levels: city zoning regulations governing land uses specific transportation infrastructure needs such as streetlights etc ; comprehensive planning process encompassing input from neighborhood associations public hearings held during regular intervals Neighborhood Development Charges assessed against properties owner/occupiers respective tax rates approved subject to rezonation Streets named after individuals or groups associated with particular functions such as Dearborn Avenue honoring President George Washington honored Baltimore Boulevard honoring Mayor George Brown honored Pennsylvanian sectional routes honored Hungarian sectional routes Today considered one of America's most livable cities features excellent public transportation options good quality schools safe neighborhoods climate controlled shopping centers high quality restaurants

On July 1, 1933, following passage of acts 191st through 193rd General Assembly which repealed local prohibition laws enacted in 1902–1903 by then Governor John Wickersham based upon his recommendation that such laws be repealed because they were an obstacle to economic development – Mayor James Hynes proclaimed that “Erie is hereby made an open air market for all classes for agricultural products” The Great Depression led to reductions in municipal services and layoffs within municipalities throughout Colorado due to lack of resources; however Mayor Hynes fought for increased funding from state government which helped keep Erie solvent until 1941 when oil exploration began near Longmont which caused revenues to decline precipitously; finally bankruptcy ensued in 1951 although it wasn't until 1979 that mayor Edward J Byrne successfully lobbied for annexation into Hamilton County resulting in more comprehensive services being provided with no layoff or budget cuts permitted by previous mayors John Dickey or Harry Brownlow Sr.. A new water tower/ pumping plant opened up next door to FirstEnergy Center immediately prior to its opening night after years languishing outside due solely to high winds; this marked one significant milestone along Interstate 25 northbound just south of downtown Scranton before becoming synonymous with downtown activity over time A new stadium complex consisting largelyof corporate headquarters buildings across I-25 from FirstEnergy CenteropenedupnorthofDowntownScrantonin2011followingyearslong languishingsetoutsideduesolelytohighwinds;thismarkedonesignificantmitigationalongI-25northboundjustsouthofDowntownScrantonbeforebecomingsyndicatedwithdowntownactivityover timetoaperiod . The redevelopment process included demolition or relocation both original structures within downtown Scranton as well asthe old KeyBank building formerly occupiedbyFirstEnergyCenter itself beforeitsopeningnightfollowingyearslong languishingsetoutsideduesolelytohighwindsandustopermitcitywide redevelopment .
