The Erie Ammo Industry declined during World War I because of a lack of demand for ammunition; however, it restarted after the war thanks to new production methods and an increase in export sales. During World War II, ammunition manufacturing resumed due to increased demand from the military; however, this period saw a decline in output due to technological advances and a shortage of materials. In 1961, Winchester bought out Eastern Ammunition Corporation which had been producing reloadable firearms since 1892. Today there are three ammo companies operating within Erie: Western Armory Manufacturing Inc., Buffalo Bore Ammunition Co., and Brownells Ammo & Reloading Incorporated (BAR).

Erie and the railroad companies of The Denver, Rio Grande and Pacific Railroad (D&RGW) and The Great Western Railway (GWR). It was named after the Erie Canal which connected Lake Erie to the Ohio River. The population of Erie was 27,716 as of the 2010 census. The first post office in Erie was established in 1868, and the first settlers were brought over by wagon from Illinois. In 1870, construction began on the D&RGW's Keystone line from Aspen to Pueblo; this line helped spur growth around Buffalo Gap Junction. In 1875,the GWR built a new track between Buffalo Gap Junction and Eagle Rock Junction. This allowed for more freight traffic through town without having to go downriver past Aspen or Cheyenne Wells junction. Growth continued along both lines until 1886 when The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) took over operation of the GWR network. With this acquisition, much of the town center became vacant land within walking distance of either company's stations; however, these developments did not result in any significant growth within town boundaries until after World War II when transportation options improved and commuter jobs mushroomed throughout Weld County due to Interstate 25/Ute Highwayconnections corridor north-south via I-25 south into Greeley/Aurora counties

The first ammunition was created in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and named "Rifle musket balls." The first rifle that fired these balls was the English Pattern Rifle. However, because of their small size, they were not very effective. In 1827, John Browning designed a new type of rifle bullet that became known as the "Browning" cartridge. This bullet had a larger diameter and was more effective than the earlier Rifle Musket Balls.
Erie, Colorado is a small city in western Colorado and the county seat of Larimer County. The population was 9,883 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers in Erie were French-Canadian traders who arrived in 1785. The town was founded by fur trappers and miners who deserted the ice fields of British Columbia for what seemed to be an ideal location for settlement: on the Republican River, about northwest of Denver. By 1819, many farmers had moved into what is now Erie, including James Kapp and his brother Jacob Kapp. In 1868, John C. Fremont surveyed the area around Erie and recommended that it become the new county seat; this was done with help from General Stephen Arapahoe. The first courthouse in Erie was built in 1870 by Jno Fenton and cost $5,000 to build. It served as a Justice of Peace until 1893 when it became the courthouse for Larimer County which replaced it after some arson attempts at courthouse buildings by locals (the last such attack occurred on October 10th 1909). The present courthouse dates back to 1915 when it replaced an earlier structure that burned down during a firestorm caused by lightning strike while being used as a munitions depot (it has been said that this building had also been used as a brothel). Erie is home to the Arsenal Museum which opened its doors in 1970 following more than 20 years of planning and construction; it features over 50 acres of exhibit space chronicling arms trade activity between Great Britain and China from 1500 to 1850. Other notable attractions include Stroudsburg's Wellcome Art Gallery which presents exhibitions related to natural history since 1865; Sturtevant Park located adjacent to downtown offers opportunities for hiking/biking/skating/fishing; as well as several restaurants including Joe's Pizza & Pastaessen and Chinese restaurant King Kong Buffet

Erie was named for Erie, Pennsylvania, the site of the first permanent U.S. settlements in that area. In 1872, the city incorporated as a municipality with a population of 10,000 people. In 1924, Erie merged with the adjacent town of Brighton to form what is now called "Erie-Brighton" borough.
