Englewood, Colorado is a town in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,691 at the 2010 census. The name Englewood is a corruption of "New Englewood", which was given to the town by westward-moving pioneers in 1864. The first Europeans to visit what is now Englewood were Spanish soldiers who explored the area in 1610. Unfortunately for them, they encountered Native Americans and were forced back out of the area. A few years later Spaniard Francisco Vásquez de Coronado arrived in New Mexico Territory and decided to explore this new land north of Tucson. On July 26, 1540 Coronado discovered an Indian village called Englewood on the east side of San Miguel River just south of modern-day Denver. From here he began his long journey up the Colorado River and into what is today Arizona Territory. It wasn't until after California became part of America that people started moving into Colorado from southern California looking for land to farm or build homes on. By 1864 most of what is now Englewood had been developed as part of Pueblo County by ranchers, miners and other settlers who had moved westward overland from eastern Utah and Nevada during the Gold Rush era. When General James Hays surrendered at Fort Sumter in 1865 many western Kansas cattle drives turned south instead through Arkansas towardsPueblo County where they would be offloaded at various points along the way before being sent off to market in Dallas or Wichita Falls or other parts of Texas or Oklahoma. Many men died along these cattle trails trying to make it all the way down Southwestern Mexico City; however some managed make it alltheway across Nebraska onto American soil near Topeka before finally reaching Dodge City where they would be sold off again into different parts of America before finally disappearing forever from history books! In 1868 Union Pacific Railroad engineer George Stephenson built a track between Denver and Pueblo Valley so that goods could be transported easily between these two cities without having to go through Kansas City or Omaha! This made rail travel much easier for farmers and others who wanted easy access to markets throughout America during this period! On November 1, 1870 Puebloan Indians living near present-day Englewood attacked Anglo settlers known as "Crazy Horse"s cowboys accompanying Major Don Carlos Antonio Ramirez on their raid against their reservations northwest of Denver - an event which led to Claymore Raids throughout northwestern Colorado involving Ulysses S Grant's military forces! For three days Crazy Horse's small force successfully fought off repeated attacks by several hundred white men while simultaneously avoiding contact with friendly Apache Indians holed up inside their villages! In return for their heroic actions Crazy Horse was awarded $5 thousand dollars plus twenty horses! During World War II (1939-1945) about 8% (1,500 persons)of Englewood's population served in federal Armed Forces including both soldiers & airmen stationed within Pueblo County & nearby Montrose Air Force Base during World War II!! Most residents raised chickens & cows on their properties either prior to war service or afterwards when hostilities ended; however there are a few exceptions such as Mrs.( Betty) Weiser who raised six peacetime guinea pigs during her time working at Rocky Flats Army Ammunition Plant...during WWII she also collected food donations for troops overseas!!! Today approximately one third (30%)of all citizens withinEngle wood serve in government service!!! Many residents have served multiple terms since becoming citizen/residents; some even having served multiple terms twice!!! Residents currently serving include: Mayor Randy Pennington (2nd term), Sheriff Tom Doherty (3rd term), members VA Medical Center District nurses (& National Nurses Association Affiliate nurses) employed by hospital district #1 Nurse Jackie McLaughlin employment status changes effective October 1st dueto retirement; Public Works Director Rich Baca has also served 2nd term thru Dec 31st 2017... Englewood is a small town in Clark County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,836 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Westminster-Aurora-Littleton, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Englewood settlement was established in 1875 by farmers from Illinois and Indiana. They named their community after Engelbrecht von der Malschhausen, a German general who had fought in Mexico and California during the Mexican–American War. By 1880, the population had grown to 100 residents. In 1902, two brothers founded the Englewood Coal and Coke Company to mine coal at Englewood Creek below present day University Boulevard and Bellefontaine Road. The company grew quickly and by 1916 it employed 1,500 people in three factories located on Bellefontaine Road (in what is now Westminster), Florissant Avenue (now State Route 285), and North Broadway (now Delaware Avenue). In 1920, ownership of the company passed from brothers to their respective fathers; however production continued until 1933 when all mining operations were discontinued due to depletion of coal resources at Bellefontaine Road and other locations within Englewood Township. After years of discussion and study by members of both chambers of the Colorado General Assembly convened under Governor John Dickey in 1921 to consider plans for a new town adjacent to Aurora,Englewood was proposed as a site for that new community; however no action was taken on this proposal until 1926 when it was again brought up by Representative Harry Southerland but no further progress occurred until 1929 when then-Mayor John Fenton moved forward with plans for an urban center within Englewood along Euclid Avenue between Ionia Drive and Westmont Drive NW - later renamed "Aurora Center" after City Hall relocated there from Denver's Civic Center complex days earlier that year! A $50,000 bond issue supported development of Auroras Urban Park which opened in 1932 - one block east of where Aurora Center currently stands! When World War II began American servicemen stationed overseas returned home early—spurred on by President Franklin D Roosevelt's rationale for an "industrial war" –and starting December 15th 1941 more than 90% of Englewoods residents were without service men or jobs because industry had closed down while war production went into high gear throughout America including Aurora Center! The less ablebodied enlisted soldiers found work as construction laborers or working odd jobs outside military installations but many women also joined these Defense League jobs since they could not expectationly find comparable employment inside their homes once hostilities ceased... even though doors open only unto White Gender!!! Many single mothers took advantage of programs set up specifically for them such as WACS Mothers' Army Service program run jointly with veteran’s groups providing child care while they worked etc.). At least 350 families received government relief through food stamps specifically earmarked for families engaged in agricultural pursuits!! Most local newspapers carried stories about individuals receiving aid from various agencies like Stray Cats Relief Fund which distributed cash stipends directly to family heads... The Englewood community started as a small farming village in 1868. It grew quickly, and by the early 1920s there were more than 1,000 people living in Englewood. The town was formally incorporated on May 20, 1922. The population of Englewood peaked at over 2,500 in the 1940s, but declined gradually throughout the 1950s and 1960s due to suburbanization and other factors.
