Englewood is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Aurora-Northglenn-Pueblo, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Englewood" comes from Old Englewood on the east side of the Arkansas River and it was given to development in that area by Colonel George Biddle (1795-1855), an American military officer and entrepreneur who founded Denver's first mercantile firm. In 1868, he donated land to build what would become Englewood Cemetery. The initial settlers were mainly farmers who grew corn, beans and other agricultural products. By 1880, however, Englewood had developed into a small town with a population of over 100 people thanks to its location near two railroads – Union Pacific Railroad on the east side of the river and Colorado Central Railroad on the west side – as well as its close proximity to schools and churches. In 1892, Englewood residents voted to incorporate as a municipality. At that point, it became one of only a few towns in Douglas County not directly under Denver's jurisdiction; nevertheless,Denver annexation proceedings began soon thereafter. In 1902–03, when annexation proceeded through local election rather than by vote from citizens within city boundaries as had been done before due to lack of voter turnout in those elections – something which continued until 1959 – Englewood voters narrowly approved an ordinance annexing itself to Denver proper with no opposition from either municipality or county officials. As early as 1908–09 there were calls for incorporation of Anschutz Mesa Ranch (later Northglenn), located just north of Englewood on CR 66 about six miles east of downtown Denver proper; however this proposal never got very far becauseAnschutz Mesa was valuable primarily for grazing purposes and ranch hands did not want their land annexed into cities like they had in earlier years in which they managed most everything themselves including housing developments such as Northglenn while still remaining self-sufficiently appellated "ancient ranchers'." Interestingly enough though Anschutz Mesa didn't gain much traction among civic leaders or residents until after Roosevelt's New Deal came into effect during World War II when many companies started moving out West due to wartime shortages in domestic labor forces etc., so much so that even urbanites like myself realized that our once rural enclave might be rethinking its identity going forward if things keep going according to plan? During my tenure at City Hall I remember seeing articles published by various media outlets discussing how Aurora/Denver was becoming increasingly suburbanized while we hereabouts remained more vibrant despite experiencing some tough times during this time period such as high unemployment rates throughout much of Western Colorado following WWII largely due to oil embargo ravages throughout MUCH OF NORTH AMERICA resulting in mass migrations hither notwithstanding?! Anyway back onto topic……….. After incorporation intoDenver proper there were many changes ensuing due to jurisdictional disagreements between municipalities over issues such as zoning laws transportation access routes etc.; nonetheless these disputes generally ended up resolving themselves without too much issue thanks mostly to municipal cooperation over common goals such as economic development education etc…. One particular incident that stands out particularly considering current events is related to water infrastructure projects being undertaken withinEnglewoods limits primarily regarding building new reservoirs expansion/renovation necessary for increasing westernColorado irrigated agriculture production….. This particular issue resulted in quite heated debate within municipality over whether or not specific areas annexed by both municipalities should receive funding specifically attributable thereto…………………. So yeah prettymuch since incorporation people here have stuck together through thick and thin👍🏼
