On July 1st 1876, two businessmen named George Stephenson and John Wesley Hardie bought land from the San Miguel mineral company east of Ft. Collins to create a town known as "EngleWOOD". Mr. Hardie had already started developing what would become EngleWOOD when he received news that Congress was voting on the Kansas Pacific Railway Company's request for an Act to be passed authorising this railroad to enter Colorado with its main line running through his land directly across from his home at what is now called Wetherspoon's Crossing Road. As a result of this vote (and also because of difficulties getting financing for the project), Hardie sold his land back to Stephenson for $5 per acre ($ today). With this purchase George Stephenson became one of the first people in Colorado to own property outright - something that would continue throughout much ofColorado history! During their time living in Englewood Stewart and Clark ran a bakery which still stands today on Elm Street just south of Interstate 25 between Downing Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard; it closed down around 1970 however some baking equipment remains today inside the Pikes Peak Brewery across I-25 from where it once stood

Englewood is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Englewood residents were pioneers who arrived in 1868 when the area was part of the Larimer County seat, Greeley. By 1870, Englewood had a post office and three stores. A school was established in 1871 and became an all-day school for students in grades one through twelve. In 1875, a railroad station was built and by 1880 it had grown to include four stores and twenty-one families. In 1889, Englewood incorporated as a borough; its first mayor was James Waddell (D). In 1905 it changed its name to Englewood Village to avoid confusion with nearby Englewood Cemetery which held that name until 1959. By 1912 there were six stores and fifteen families living in the village section of town while nine businesses operated within one mile of town limits. On July 14th 1916 during World War I, local soldiers participated in an armed reconnaissance mission over Denver after hearing rumors of German activity in Denver On November 4th 1923 voters approved incorporation into Douglas County as well as annexation by Aurora Township In 1949 Englewood became home to Rocky Mountain Laboratories where Eastern Electric Co., Hewlett-Packard Co., Monsanto Co., PepsiCo., Anheuser Busch Inc., ConocoPhillips Petroleum Company, Peet's Coffee & Tea Corporation and United Artists Cinema were all founded or started operations here
In 1876, Englewood's first post office opened. In 1886, the town received its first railroad station. In 1912, Englewood became a part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Railroad system. The population increased rapidly after this and in 1916, the town had its first library.
