Englewood is a small town in Colorado, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Englewood-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Englewood was first settled by German immigrants in the mid 1800s. By 1860, Englewood had a post office and two churches. The name "Englewood" was given to the community by David Potter, one of its founders. Potter was born in Germany and came to America in 1847 as a boy; he later served as mayor of Aurora before moving to Englewood to start his own business. In 1872, Potter donated land for a public park which became known as Potter Park today. During the early 1900s, Englewoods growth began to slow due to its proximity to Denver proper and other downtown areas. However, during World War I it saw some significant activity due to its proximity to Ft . Leavenworth Army Base (now known as Rocky Mountain Arsenal). After the war ended, many new businesses were opened and trade increased again until around 1930 when oil arrived in waves and industry commenced anew; however, Engelwoods growth stalled again largely because of its isolation from other parts of Colorado Springs and Aurora. In recent years there has been an increase in development within the town limits with housing subdivisions such as Pinnacle Hills being built on older farmlands west of town while Interstate 25 provides access from all directions making it an important economic center for the townspeople. Englewood was founded in 1868 by merchants and engineers from Englewood, New Jersey, who had come to start a new town on the north side of Denver. The name "Englewood" is derived from "enclave." In 1870, Engelwood became one of thirteen towns incorporated in Arapahoe County as part of a larger landGrabbing process that saw casinos built throughout Colorado and northern Mexico. The town's growth until its incorporation can be credited with the arrival of railroads: in 1871 an S&S railroad connected Englewood to Nuggets through Golden; and two years lateranother line made it possible for people to get around without having to leave their homes. In 1880, when Engle wood had a population (according to county records) of only 437 residents, three citizens were elected officials: Mayor John Lattimer (a Democrat), Justice John Bigham (a Republican), and Street Commissioner Isaac Higgins (Republican). Population growth continued unabated through most of the 19th century thanks to immigrants coming into Colorado via railroads and stagecoaches – many Germans – as well as occasional pioneers who set up homesteads along Douglas Creek or near what would become downtownEnglewood. By 1890, there were over 2,000 residents living within walking distanceof each other in what would eventually become some of the most vibrant neighborhoods oncontinentally—and still are today! For much of this time period mail service arrived through horse-drawn wagons which had to be unloaded at each stop because no tracks existed then or now close enough for cars/trucks/buses/planes! This stopped abruptly withthe opening of I-25 about 40 years later which killed off so much transportation options for locals that even today almost everyone lives outside one mile radiusof any airport or train station… not too mention all those new subdivisions popping up just outside those areas!
