In 2007, JDS Uniphase Corporation announced it would move its global headquarters from El Segundo, California to Englewood after more than two decades of operations there.

Englewood is a small town in southern Colorado, located about 25 miles (40 km) north of Denver. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. It has been home to Englewood High School and Englewood Community College since the early 1900s. The town was named after George Engelhard, who bought land here in 1879. Engelhard had come from Germany and purchased 160 acres (72 ha) of land east of the current city limits in 1879. He built a log cabin and named his new community after himself, Engelhardstown. In 1902, he sold his holdings to Atherton Houghton, one of the founders of Denver. Houghton developed the town into an agricultural center with large fields for growing corn, wheat, and other crops; he also built a few churches and began developing the first commercial buildings in Englewood. In 1928, Houghton donated $5 million to create The University of Colorado at Boulder;CU now employs more than 10,000 people inEnglewood alone! In later years many businesses closed or were taken over by larger rivals; however, one importantstay until recently was The Jiffy Lube across from CU’s main campus - Englewood residents used to go there for their oil service! Today most residents are retirees or working parents who live on local streets near schools and shopping centers that have sprung up aroundEnglewood over time. There is still some shopping available but it is much more limited than when I last lived hereabouts 30 years ago
Englewood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora Metropolitan Area. The area now called Englewood was first settled in 1876 by John Engle and his family. In 1886, George Wurtz bought land from Englewood residents and built the first home there. He named it Englewood Manor after his late father-in-law, General George Washington Carver. Wurtz served as mayor of Aurora from 1901 to 1903 and as governor of Colorado from 1909 to 1913. In 1928, Harry Chandler purchased a large tract of land east of Englewood Center for $3 million. He named it "Chandler Park" in honor of his late father-in-law's friend and business partner, Harry Chandler Sr.. The park has since been renamed "Englewood". In 1954, the city of Aurora annexed parts of what are now northeastern Weld County into its borders; along with those annexation boundaries came an expanded jurisdiction for Englewood Township which included much of what is now southwest Denver suburbia including Chalk Hill Road and northeast Aurora Boulevard. This madeEnglewood Township one municipality within the newly created Aurora Municipal Districts 1&2 until 1974 when districts 1&2 were merged into City Of Aurora under Mayor Jack Dempsey's leadership. On July 1st, 2007 Mayor Joe Starkey announced that because no new development had been approved by the city core committee since 2005 he would not seek re-election on November 3rd due to term limits set forth in state law. On November 3rd Starkey ran for reelection but lost to incumbent Brodie Hancock by about 20%, making him ineligible for office again until 2020. Finally on December 6th 2014 Mayor Joe Starkey announced he will run for re-election but will not serve any more than two terms due to term limits set forth in state law.< ref name="starkey/ aurora">
