Englewood, Colorado is a city in Parker County, Colorado, United States. The population was 26,739 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1876 by Rufus Engle and named after his home county of Englewood, New Jersey. In 1902, it became part of the Denver metropolitan area and was renamed Englewood. In 2006, the city annexed nearby Thornton. In early 1861, surveyor Elisha Gray identified land to the east of what is now Englewood as being worth purchasing because it lay undeveloped but with potential for irrigation agriculture. When Fenton Cranch offered $5 per acre for this unoccupied land on October 14, 1861 (the day before Fort Sumter was captured), twelve families purchasedhips which totaled 624 acres (265 ha). This parcel became known as "Fenton's Ranch" or simply "Fenton." On November 2nd 1860 Isaac Perkins acquired 160 acres (50 ha) from David Haines for $10 cash also current issues of Sheriff's office warrants #1 – 5; Captains jailer badge #2 – 3; Warrants sworn out by Solomon Northcutt to George Atwater dated January 1st 1859 – all current except one old warrant from 1793 still outstanding at ½ dollar value (#4). These were probably included in purchase from Fenton’s Ranch since they were available for sale to anyone who wanted them at that time After much discussion among citizens of Aurora andDenver about what should be done with this valuable piece of country real estate located just east of downtown Aurora/Denver they decided on building a few stone blocks on what would become known as “The Green” site today’s Englewood Cemetery . The first building constructed onsite was a two story frame house built by George Atwater in 1867 which he called The Old House . A larger frame house followed in 1870 which became known as The Block House . It is interesting to note that both buildings are still standing today and can be seen from parts of northeast Aurora

Englewood is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the Englewood-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area and is part of the Denver–Aurora-Lakewood, CO Combined statistical area. The first Englewood settlers were families from New York City who arrived in 1859. In 1870, when gold was discovered in Weld County, residents voted to incorporate as a town. The town name honors General George Biddle Engle (1811-1892), an American general who fought in Mexico and against Apache Indians. In 1850s two brothers - Nathan and Solomon Beeman - journeyed from Pennsylvania to claim 160 acres (66 ha) of land comprising what is now Englewood Township and Aurora Township. They named their land Park View after their home park in Philadelphia. Park View developed into what is now Englewood because it was accessible by wagon road from Aurora and Denver cattle herds that grazed there during summertime. In 1872, when another brother - John Coyle - joined the family, they sold all their holdings to him for $30 per acre ($2 million today). After purchasing more land within the current boundaries of Englewood Township (from Nathan Beeman’s heirs), John Coyle founded Aurora Manufacturing Company which manufactured harnesses and other farm equipment including plows and harrows for sale to farmers throughout central Colorado until the early 1920s. According to history written by Jerald Davenport about Aurora Manufacturing Company: “John Coyle had come westward with his new acquisition but found conditions too harsh for his business venture; he returned eastward across America…He left behind him one great industrial enterprise – Aurora Manufacturing Company – which became one of centralColorado’s leading employers during its most successful years” In 1902 John Gorman opened a grocery store on site where he lived until his death in 1984; this store remains open as the Gorman Store Museum today Other important businesses located in or aroundEnglewoods earliest days include: Horseshoe Saloon & Lounge (now defunct), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., First National Bank (founded 1865), Second National Bank (founded 1898), A&P Grocery Stores Inc., Gold Eagle Mine Supply Co., Ford dealership #1 – present day Miller Motorsports complex Thanksgiving celebration at Sixty6th Street Presbyterian Church has been held annually since 1903 with turkey bought fresh from local farms
