On December 3rd 2009 Mayor Jerry Nugent announced that on or about January 1st 2020 all city services will move from Aurora Township to Arvada Municipal Services District effective immediately due to budget cuts made by City Manager Jeff Morgenthaler as a result of state mandate known as " sunshine law". This decision came as quite a surprise because until recently Mayor Nugent had been working hard with his councilmembers to try and keep city services moving back into Aurora township even if this meant taking away some jobs from residents there.
