In 1980, Englewood joined with Steamboat Springs to become one of six municipalities within the Aurora–Aurora–Lakewood metropolitan area which included Denver; this enlarged metropolitan area had a population of 2 million people as of 2000. On July 1st 2003, Aurora annexed parts of the City limits including Engelwood making it an even larger municipality with 446 square miles (1120 km²) of land within its boundaries (). On January 1st 2009Engel Wood announced they will close their doors effective January 15th after 106 years providing quality education and employment for students from all over Colorado Springs

Today, Englewood is home to many interesting museums including the Rocky Mountain Museum of History and Culture (RMMHC), which opened in 2007 on land donated by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald; the United States Territorial Palace Museum (USTPM); and Ansonia Hall Library which houses one of Colorado's largest public collection of books about history with more than 2 million volumes. Additionally, Englewood contains several parks including Goldendale Park which features a restored historic locomotive station that once served as passenger rail service into downtown Aurora; Ascot Park located adjacent to Interstate 25 exit 144; and Friendship Park just outside the village limits where residents can enjoy fine Arts & Crafts displays from local vendors during summer months.
The Englewood Post Office was established on December 16, 1887, by order of the Colorado General Assembly. The original building, which is still in use today as a post office, was built at 5th and Cherry Streets. In 1914, the post office moved to its present location at 6th and Delaware Streets. On November 8, 1959, Englewood had its first incorporation as a city. Englewood has experienced many growth opportunities during its history. In the early 1980s it became home to Englewood Mall which served as the largest shopping center in the area until it closed in 1995. In recent years Englewood has seen an increase in business and population due to new development along 6th Street including Park Place Apartments and Parkview Towers apartment complex.
