Englewood is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,236 at the 2010 census. It has been situated on the eastern edge of the Denver metropolitan area since its incorporation in 1875. The first Englewood post office opened in 1865. The name was changed to Englewood in 1877 after Higginson and Engelhart settled there from Illinois and Kansas. In 1881, the town had a population of 375 people and it became a full-time township on December 12th, 1888. On July 1st, 1916, Englewood incorporated as a village with 2 residents. From its incorporation until 1959, Englewood experienced rapid growth due to new housing developments such as Keystone Village (1958), Northwoods II (1963), Southfields III (1974), Sunrise Towers I-II (1981), Sunrise Towers III(1991). Despite this growth however, many aspects of the community remain unchanged including limited access to public transportation or shopping opportunities outside of downtown Denver which have led to some resentment among residents over what they see as gentrification of their townspeople
