Durango, Colorado is a town in southern Colorado on the eastern border of the San Juan County seat. The population was 9,471 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for San Juan County and part of the Denver–Aurora metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Durango were Spanish traders in 1539. A post office called Nacogdoches was established in 1876, and Durango incorporated as a city in 1903. The population grew rapidly during World War II due to military production in nearby Tonnage Lake and Fort Collins. In 1954, Durango became an autonomous municipality within San Juan County; it had since been a part of Denver-Aurora since 1978. The city lost its charter as a municipality on November 5, 2006 but regained it on December 1, 2007 when Boulder-based Aurora Municipal Services purchased the assets of Durango Municipal Services Incorporated. On July 25, 2006, Mayor John Suthers announced that he would not seek re-election because he disagreed with changes made to City Council by Aurora Municipal Services LLC., which he said violated both his personal beliefs about government transparency and public understanding of council proceedings through online accessibility requirements put into effect by state law governing local government operations (Lanham Act §2-12-405). On October 4,[1] Suthers resigned effective immediately following publication of plans by Aurora Municipal Services LLC.—an entity controlled by mayor Suthers's successor—to change how City Council functions so as to make it more opaque and partisan.[2][3][4] As New York Times reported "the new plan makes almost all decisions by secret vote with no opportunity for public comment or objection...Plans finalized last month giveCouncil members power to discussed only agenda items related directly to their own constituencies; any others must be voted upon unanimously....................................'the new structure will allow barely two dozen percent of councilmembers - most from outside groups critical of Mayor John Suthers - much sway over decisions about vital services like police protection or zoning."[5] This change followed complaints from some Councilmembers who felt they were not given enough time to raise objections before decisions were made withoutopportunity for input[6].

However, these devices were too complicated for most people to use. The first true gun choke was designed and patented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte on December 5, 1859. This device consisted of two pieces: an upper part (the so-called trigger lock) that held onto guns when they were not in use, and a lower part (the muzzle brake) that prevented Bullets from entering into or passing through the barrel without hitting something else first. It worked very well but had one major flaw; it required special tools to operate it! In 1865, John Moses Browning improved upon Nicholas-Jacques Conte's design with his own invention called an "envelope choke". This device consisted of three parts: The upper part (the trigger lock), which held onto guns when they were not in use; The lower part (muzzle brake), which prevented Bullets from entering into or passing through the barrel without hitting something else first; And The Envelope itself, which protected firearms inside its boundaries

By 1880, there were more than 50 businesses in Durango with a population of 2,500. The railroad arrived in Durango in 1865 and changed the way people lived and worked. With new jobs and opportunities came new families and businesses to help support them.
