Commerce City, Colorado is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 23,574 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Area. The first permanent settler in Commerce City was Pomeroy Silliman in 1875. He and his family opened a store on Third Street near what is now Interstate 25. It was only until 1886 that Commerce City had any street names other than Third and Center Streets which were then known as Silliman Avenue and Stillwater Avenue respectively. In 1912, the name of the town changed to Commerce City after its merchants formed a Citizens' Association to promote growth in the community. By 1920 there were 24 businesses with over $1 million in annual sales and 3,000 residents living within walking distance of each other including an ice cream parlor and movie theater on Main Street which still operates today! The early 20th century saw some major development for Commerce City as it became home to two heavy manufacturing plants operated by Bethlehem Steel Company (now ArcelorMittal) and JBL Rubber Company (later Goodyear Tire & Rubber). Both plants closed during World War II but their associated factories are still extant today along South Broadway in downtownCommerce City thanks to donations from local businesses who wanted them preserved. During this time many new housing developments such as The Chase Centre started growing up around South Broadway with many more shops popping up along I-25 between Sixth and Seventh Streets across from ArcelorMittal’s plant while also adding dozens more homes to the city limits making it one of fastest growing cities in America during that time period. During much of this growth period Industry Boulevard ran parallel to main streets south of 6th Ave., but eventually both avenues were connected by I-25 so Business Boulevard essentially disappeared leaving CommerceCity essentially all within walking distance of each other for most people throughout most years barring very rare exceptions like during construction seasons when access would be limited or impassable due to construction work taking place on either side of I-25/Boulevard doubleheaders happen like every few months or so making it difficult for anyone outside those closely proximate areas ever really having any idea what’s going on inside those buildings unless they have become interested through word-of-mouth or social media; however even then most people are probably just guessing based off sound effects or seeing construction activity taking place right next door without ever getting inside because no one has actually broken into that building yet...
