Over time various other landmarks have been added to make up what is now known as Downtown Colorado Springs or "The District." One such addition was First United Methodist Church which was completed in 1912 after years of planning by residents and businessmen who saw it as an essential part of Civic Center Park (now University Park). Additionally notable buildings include: Gothic Revival styled Anschutz Mansion built in 1907; State Capitol Building constructed from 1911 to 1913; Wells Fargo Bank building erected in 1916; Pikes Peak Municipal Tower (now Aspen Mountain Resort Lodge) completed in 1941; Loews Regency Hotel completed in 1949;emetropolitan police department headquarters located at Fourth Street & Walnut Street renamed Department Headquarters Plaza during renovations conducted between 1984-1985 and 1998-1999; (Now part of Historic Denver) The district has seen much development over time but retains some key cultural heritage features including: murals created by Edvard Munch around 1915 depicting subjects like Christmas trees or prophets coming down from heaven/earth while still retaining character 1921 Stapleton Elementary School mural depicting Native Americans'; clocktower visible from Interstate 25 just southSW corner Rotunda Drive which opened on April 15th 1919

In 1876, the first post office was established in Colorado Springs. The city's population grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, reaching over 100,000 by 1912. The downtown area was rebuilt in the 1930s following a fire that destroyed much of what had been built in the previous decade. By 2000, Colorado Springs had become one of America's most populous metropolitan areas.
