In 1876, Captain John A. Magruder of the Colorado Springs Rifle Club opened his first muzzleloader and shotgun store in what is now the old City Hall building on Welton Street. At that time, only a small population lived in Colorado Springs, and holstermaking was not considered a popular trade. However, with the arrival of civilian settlers in the area and an increasing demand for handguns and rifles from both hunters and farmers, this began to change. In 1886, Captain Magruder moved his store to 9th & Santa Fe streets where it remained until 1966 when it was purchased by Bob Kopp of Rifleman Firearms Corporation. Today, Rifleman Firearms Corporation is still located in the same building (alongside other firearms businesses such as Brownells) and continues to sell ammunition, reloading supplies, handgun parts/accessories, rifle parts/accessories as well as holsters made from various materials including leather, plastic, metal and even cloth!

In 1919 American millionaire Howard Hughes purchased 2%, interest only in Mexico Oriente mine for $10 million (). By 1927 he had increased ownership 50%. However World War II interrupted any plans for further developmentA reorganization followed that left Oriente unprofitable so Hughes sold it back to its original owners but kept control over 3% interests () through his wealth licensing agreement with Mexican president Decano Manuel Lopez Mateos (). On October 16th 1953 American explorer Richard Halliburton reached Eagle Pass Summit where he observedand photographed Mount Rushmore National Monument () while driving down a logging road leading up mountain ()
The first Europeans to enter the area that is now Colorado Springs were French fur traders in 1764. The first major settlement was made by the fur trappers and Missionaries of Santa Fe on a small ranch near present day Telluride. In 1809, Custer passed through this area on his way from Montana to California. The town began to form around this time with various tradesmen and travelers settling in close proximity. By 1830, the population had increased to over 1,000 people. Colorado Springs became an incorporated city in 1868. It experienced significant growth during World War I with its military base providing employment for many residents. After the war, Colorado Springs became known as the "City of Lights" due to its high-quality nightlife and cultural attractions such as art galleries, theaters, and music venues.
