In 1956*, Interstate 25 was extended all the way down to US 60&70 south side*, thus concurrent with nearby Cherry Creek Boulevard making Downtown even more visible by adding another major artery into town limits* (Cherry Creek Boulevard currently runs concurrently with I-25 just south of Civic Center). Downtown has seen many changes over time including gentrification beginning around 1990 while preserving some historical buildings; however *some recent gentrification has led to displacement*due largely to increasing costs associated with higher rents related to upcoming development adjacent to older brick buildings vacated by departing businesses corridor skirmishes have ensued between residents displaced by redevelopment projects and developers seeking market value for their properties
