In 1892, the first gunsmith in Colorado Springs was hired by John T. Brown and Sons. In 1896, the first pistol was manufactured in Denver, Colorado. The next year, Columbine High School was built in Colorado Springs and firearms started being used there as well. In 1903, the first magazine-fed rifle was made in Colorado Springs. In 1907, Colt produced its Model 1911 Pistol for America at a manufacturing plant just outside of Colorado Springs. That same year saw the opening of what is now known as Stevensgun & Machinery Company on North First Street in downtown Colorado Springs. This company furnished parts for many pistols and rifles before becoming part of Colt Firearms Corporation (now ArmaLite) in 1949. The then Mayor ofColoradoSpringsJohn Fenton designated 4th Street between Arapaho Road and Coors Boulevard as "Gunsmoke Alley" because it became home to one of the most prolific shooting venues in town - The Gun Club from 1932 until its closure in 1988/1989. It had been located adjacent to The White House since 1906 when President Theodore Roosevelt hosted a hunting party there with his Rough Rider friends at Ascot Park near Rocky Mountain News Park

Over time, other designers came up with more sophisticated designs for firearms. One such design was the musket. This weapon was first developed in 16th century England by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his team of engineers. The musket featured a tube called the “bullet” that allowed it to be fired continuously without having to reloading every time! This feature made muskets very powerful and efficient weapons – they were also one of the first handguns ever created! The late 18th century saw another significant development in firearm development: pistols were created. Pistols were different from traditional rifles or shotguns in several ways: they did not require reloading; instead, they functioned as single shots (hence their name); they were less powerful than rifles or shotguns; and they were much easier to use than swords or bows – you simply held onto the gunpowder charge inside the pistol while firing! In addition, pistols became much more popular than any previous type of firearm because they could be carried around easily (they weren’t as bulky as traditional weapons). As a result, this period saw some impressive advancements in firearm technology!!!
