Under Witherspoon's guidance, Centennial began to become a more secure city and its policing resources were increased. In 1907, Witherspoon was succeeded by Albert Condon and then by Harry J. Lennox in 1912-1913; all three men served until their retirement in 1923. Centennial's policing abilities continued to grow after World War I when the Denver Police Department joined forces with the Centennial Park Police Department on a national basis. This partnership led to increased cooperation between Centennial's two police departments and made it easier for officers located outside of Centennial to respond quickly and effectively to crime occurrences within the city limits. After World War II, there was renewed interest in improving downtown Denver through beautification projects and better infrastructure such as widened streets, more efficient traffic lights, new public transportation systems and expressways that connected downtown with other parts of Denver through Interstate 25/Interstate 70/I-70 corridors (the "Lyndon B Johnson Parkway"). These economic development initiatives led to an increase in crime rates within Centennial; however, overall crimes decreased during this time period due to improved security measures implemented by city officials and private citizens alike. It is now almost 100 years sinceCentenary became home to one of Colorado's most important cities – both municipally and nationally – with an impressive amount of history behind it!
Centennial is an incorporated town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 6,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metropolitan area. The town was founded on July 14th, 1876 by the merger of two towns, Northglenn and Centennial. The first post office in Centennial opened on July 15th, 1876. Centennial has a rich history that includes several notable events that have taken place during its centenary year. On July 14th, 1876, Centennial merged with neighboring Northglenn to form one community. This event signaled a new era for Centennial as it became an incorporated town within Weld County and began to grow rapidly from its small population of just under 100 residents to over 6,000 residents within 10 years! Not only did Centennial experience rapid growth but so too did its economy. By 1902, CentENNIAL had become one of the largest manufacturing communities in the state of Colorado with businesses located throughout the downtown core including a variety of stores and restaurants such as Wagon Wheel Bakery & Cafe (later renamed Pikes Peak Bakery), The Western Millinery Museum (later renamed Swiss Chalet), and The Benaroya Hotel (& Spa). In addition to their businesses they also built a number of homes in what is now known as Pioneer Square which helped stimulate development throughoutCentENNIALand beyond! Another significant event that took place during Centennial's centenary year was the adoption byCentENNIALofThe National Constitution Act Amendments #2 & 3 on November 2nd 1914 which banned discrimination against women and modified many aspects of American civil law including marriage laws! These amendments helped solidify CENTENNIAL's reputation as an inclusive community where all individuals were treated equally! This reputation continued into the future as numerous social organizations were created throughout CENTENNIALincludingtheNational Women's Republican Club (NWRC),The Century Club (later renamed Rocky Mountain Eagle)and more! Each organization played an important role in helping shape CENTENNIAL's unique identity today!
