Centennial is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley–Julesburg Micropolitan Statistical Area. Centennial is located on the eastern edge of the Front Range region and bordered by Park City to the south and east, Aspen to the north and west, and Golden to the northwest. The first settler in Centennial was John Sevier who arrived in 1876. He named his settlement after Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – then one of America's largest cities with over 20,000 residents. Other early settlers included James Hargrave (1854-1938), George Fenton (1865-1951), Hiram Noyes (1868-1947), Elijah Parish (1872-1959) and John Goode (1874-1965). Centennial began as an agricultural community with small farms dotting its area until 1906 when a creamery opened up in Centennial that became one of Greeley's major sources of income for many years. In 1916 Centennial incorporated as a town under state law which made it one of several towns within Weld County that were allowed to exist without taxation for a period of twenty years before being forced into bankruptcy by state regulations. In 1960 Centennial voted to become an unincorporated community once again following state legislation allowing this type of decision by local communities within Weld County. This change caused much concern among some residents as it removed any semblance of control over their lives or development while also providing no public resources or support from either government officials or nonresidential developers – leaving Centennial largely unattended for most Of its history outside of occasional large events such as festivals or parades commemorating centennials like themselves rather than anything else. A number of initiatives have been undertaken over the years in response both to concerns about lackadaisical response time from city officials and general consensus among residents feeling they needed more attention givenCentENNIAL'S current condition; however few have truly taken hold due primarily to funding limitations both locally and nationally which have keptCentENNIAL largely devoid Of significant development opportunities despite ample opportunity present elsewhere including across Weld County Throughout its history

In 1912, Centennial became home to Rocky Mountain National Park which now spans 9 municipalities including Asotin, Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, Golden (now Lakewood), Pueblo (now Pueblo Hill), Thornton (now Thornton Junction),and Westminster (now Westminster). The park played an instrumental role in helping to revive Colorado’s economy after World War I and also helped promote outdoor recreation throughout the state. Today,CentENNIAL continues to be a major center for cultural activity in Western Colorado.
