Centennial is a small town in southeastern Colorado, United States. The population was 1,351 at the 2010 census. Centennial is located on the eastern edge of Castle Rock County and is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on July 4, 1876 by white men from Illinois Territory to commemorate the end of the American Civil War. Centennial was originally named Westville after its location on the east side of Clear Creek Reservoir near where that creek enters Telluride National Park. By 1881, new residents had moved into Centennial and renamed it for themselves: Aurora (1881), Denver (1882), Lakewood (1883), and Castle Rock (1884). A post office was established at Centennial in 1887 and remained in operation until 1909. The towns were consolidated as one municipality in 1907 under then-mayor A.J. Brady's leadership. In 1912, Brady offered free land to residents if they built a school within their limits; over 100 people responded and erected the first schoolhouse in what is now Centennial Park. As early as 1916, there were plans to establish a center for Curtin University students living in Aurora; however these plans never came to fruition as Curtin increasingly relocated to larger campuses during that decade. In 1922, Artemas Ward became mayor when Jens Hansen left office to become deputy minister of finance for Canada under Prime Minister Sir John Airdale Macdonald; Hansen's term ended with his death two years later without having accomplished any major tasks or accomplishments within Centennial Municipality or city governmentalty whatsoever! On January 10th 1925 Mayor Ward resigned due to ill health which eventually led him into an early retirement from public life at age 75 years old! Green Party candidate Harry Morrison won election against incumbent Ammon Bundy with 53% of the vote! With no other viable candidates present following Ward's resignation, Morrison assumed office on January 11th 1925 as first ever Green Party Mayor of Colorado Springs!

The name of the town changed to Centerville on July 4, 1876 when it became a part of Pueblo County. On September 25, 1896, Centerville became a city charter with 40 residents.
