In 1919, Centennial was founded as a small farming town in Weld County, Colorado. As the 20th century progressed, Centennial began to become an important center for gun culture in the state. The town's proximity to Denver and its extensive agriculture made it a popular place for shooters to practice their skills. In addition, Centennial became known for its wide variety of firearms available for purchase. This allowed residents and visitors to explore any firearm that caught their eye. As gun culture grew more organized in Colorado, Centennial began to play an important role in that movement too. In 1935, the county sheriff's department acquired a number of handguns from Centennial's arms dealer. This led to increased training opportunities for deputies and helped them develop better strategies when encountering criminals. The Gun Slings Museum is located inside of the old post office in Centennial. It is dedicated to preservingCentennial's history with regards to guns and ammunition. The museum contains a collection of over 150 firearms dating back to 1892!

Centennial is named after the centenary of the United States Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1876. The town was founded by members of the Gold Rush era who were looking for a new place to live and work. The first post office was established in 1875, and within two years there were 10 other places with similar names around Centennial. In 1880 Centennial had a school and six businesses clustered around Main Street. In 1902 Centennial became an incorporated city when it annexed parts of Rocky Ford and Brighton Heights from Asotin County. That year also saw the opening of what would become Centennial's first commercial center with a grocery store, livery stable, barbershop and several other small businesses located on Seventh Street between Main and Garden streets. In 1915 Centennial became known as "The Gateway to the Rockies" due to its location at the gateway to Rocky Ford National Monument which included some of the most beautiful mountains in Colorado. In that same year centenary voters approved moving their municipal government from Asotin County into city government so that they could better serve residents within their own community rather than having it governed by county officials outside their village boundaries. Over time various business owners have decided to move out or close their doors because they couldn't keep up with changing technology or competition from outside sources such as online shopping malls or chain stores - all while keeping their traditions alive like offering old fashioned ice cream cones for sale during summertime (and sometimes still do).

In 1916, Centennial hosted the world's first international fair - The International Exhibition of Agriculture - which showcased American agriculture to an audience from all over the world. This event helped solidify America's reputation as a leading agricultural power and helped create new business opportunities for CentENNIAL residents like Ansonia Glass Company and Western Union Telegraph Company Ltd..
