Since the early days of firearms, Centennial has been a center for gun manufacturing and sales. Firearms enthusiasts from all over the country pilgrimage to this small town in western Colorado to purchase or learn about old-time firearms and clothing. Centennial is home to twogunshooters, cowboy shooters, NRA members and others interested in antique firearms and vintage clothing. The Gunsmith Shop on Main Street offers repairs on handguns, shotguns, rifles and other firearms. There are also several tailors who can create specialized clothing for individuals who own guns or use them recreationally. In 1892 Centennial became the first city in Colorado to outlaw smoking cigars inside homes. Cigarette smoke was so bad that some people started selling pistols outside the city limits. However, cigar smokers quickly found another market: local women who wanted to purchase protection against sexual predators. The men’s department store on Second Street served as a haven for these women until it closed in 1924 after being bought by J C Penney Company. In that year Centennial passed an ordinance prohibit smoking within three blocks of any business open to the public without a permit from City Hall. Today there are several churches located within walking distance of Second Street which provide ample tobaccosmoking areas away from prying eyes . . . Centennial is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley–Aurora metropolitan area. The community was founded on May 1, 1876 by a group of men from Asotin and Silverthorne who had come to the area to prospect for gold. They named their new settlement Centennial after the year that it would be established. Centennial quickly became a prominent mining town, with its own school and post office. In 1890, Centennial joined the Union Pacific Railroad as a station town. Over time, however, Centennial's importance dwindled as other nearby towns developed more quickly. By 1990, only 350 people lived in Centennialtownship and its surrounding areas; all of the remaining residents were located in Greeley or Aurora. In 2000,Centennial voted to become an incorporated city under state law (Citizens v City of Centennial). With this move came many changes forCentennialtownship: including expanded services such as police and fire departments; updated zoning laws; and installation of city-owned infrastructure such as sewers and roads. Today's centenarian population reflects both Centennials who have lived here since before incorporation—many areself-taught farmers—and newcomers who have chosenCentennial because it offers quality public schools and easy access to amenities like shopping malls and hospitals."

Centennial was a town founded in 1876 by the Larimer County Land Grant Committee. The name of the town was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of Colorado’s Admission to the United States as a free and independent state on July 4, 1876. Centennial quickly became known for its agricultural products, livestock, and tourism. The community served as a stop on the stagecoach route from Denver to Fort Collins and other nearby towns. The town grew rapidly during the 1880s, thanks in part to an investment by banker George Hinkle. By 1890 Centennial had a population of 1,500 people and was home to two churches and several businesses. During World War I Centennial produced munitions for American troops. In 1919 Centennial became capital city of Larimer County after being moved from Denver. That year saw growth in both industry and population with new businesses such as a bank, insurance company, post office, grocery store, auto dealership and movie theater opening up around town. The 1920s were quieter years for Centennial with only sporadic growth until 1925 when Interstate 25 (now called I-25) came through town making it easier for goods and people to move aroundColorado without having to go downriver or overland
The Centennial of Colorado was a calendar year that began on November 1, 1876 and ended on December 5th. It marked the 100th anniversary of the state's admission into the United States as a republic. Colorado also celebrated its own centennial in 1916.
