Centennial, Colorado is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the San Miguel Valley and about midway between Fort Collins and Greeley.centennial Local History Centennial began as a small community near what is now Windsor. A post office was founded there on December 12, 1876, and the town gradually grew until it had a population of over 100 by 1900. In 1909, Centennial became part of Denver metropolitan area; however, its status as a separate municipality remained until 1970 when it merged with nearby Greenwood Village to form the present-day city of Denver. In 1907–08 the University of Colorado at Boulder (UCO) operated an agricultural Experiment Station in Centennial which studied tourniquet use in agriculture. UCO's Farm Bureau also operated within Centennial for several years before closing down in 1916 due to financial difficulties brought about by World War I. A new Agricultural Experiment Station was opened in 1921 by CU Boulder President James Gibbons with help from US Department of Agriculture Commissioner Noble Eliot Norton and engineer Harry Emerson Froomkin . The station became known as CU germplasm research center after CU Boulder acquired most of its property including Laburnum Road east of campus in 1924. By 1930 CU Boulder's Agricultural Experiment Station employed nearly 300 people who conducted more than 2,000 experiments involving some 50 crops ! It helped spur legislation such as the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 and led to increased social censorship throughout most parts of America following World War II. But overall, Centennial has left an important legacy on our state which we continue to celebrate today.
