The history of scopes in Castle Rock, Colorado goes back to the early 1800s. One of the first scopes made in this town was a half-inch telescope. The Telescope and Instrument Company was founded by Captain John Smeaton in 1825. It is said that he built it using materials from his ship, the “Castle Rock” which had been sunk in a storm off the coast of Scotland. In 1851, Captain Smeaton sold his business to David Berson and began making telescopes for Civil War soldiers at Fort Burton. In 1865, Berson sold his business to George Armstrong Custer who used it as a artillerynery range until 1886 when it was donated to the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 1903, Dr. James Hutton purchased the telescope company and continued making them until 1949 when it was replaced by The Scopes observatory which stands today on campus across from Old Main building. One of the most famous people who ever visited Castle Rock with a scope was astronomer Neil Armstrong who discovered Moon landing on July 20, 1969. When he set up his camera on top of Old Main during what is now known as "Armstrong's Landing," he captured one of history's biggest images!

James Ayerstall and William Bunnell) and five private residences totaling . In 1931, Castle Rock merged with nearby Northglenn to form the new city of Aurora which still contains portions of what were once Castle Rock's downtown areas including its former shopping district known as "The Village". After Aurora's annexation by Denver in 1962 most of what were once Downtown Aurora were lost when Aurora became Arapahoe County's first incorporated municipality outside of Centennial Park In 1994 Riverrock Homes completed construction on what would become Park Meadows which surrounded much of what used to be Downtown Aurora while also incorporating some parts of Riverrock Gardens which included aspects of original Downtown Aura

In 1966, when San Miguel County became one unified county with Aspen as its seat, part of Golden's economy changed Forever when Ford Motor Company moved their corporate headquarters from Dearborn Heights (now Detroit) to Aspen/Golden/Aurora and began making their largest investments ever there including creating a new Operations Center that would house all aspects of Ford's business operations across multiple sites around Aspen-Golden-Aurora while continuing to lease space at Dearborn Heights until they vacated it completely in 1998! This move allowed Ford Business Services (FBS) to take up permanent residency inside one building on 14th Street South between State Street and Auraria Avenue way back then - long before FBS became operational! Castleton Road continues east from Aurora Avenue past Fort Collins Drive through residential neighborhoods down towards Clear Creek Valley where it becomes US Highway 6 just north of Interstate 25 before turning southeast towards Durango; finally ending at US Highway 87 about 10 miles northeast of Golden Airport
